Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Hi all,

Managed to sneak in 2J rtw redemptions for my honeymoon in June 2020 before the points hike. This was my first time redeeming and was keen to get it sorted despite only starting the search 6 hours ago so the routes are probably not as efficient as I would've liked!

As There are quite a few flights on CX and IB, what is the best way to select seats?

Thanks in advance, K

So a little birdie told me that the new QF fuel fines went live on Monday even although the points changes didn’t occur until 18th.
Managed to do a minor change to a domestic sector at 11.59 pm yesterday which resulted in a reissue and recalculation of the taxes on the 420K Award
Result :
Refund of $306.50 per ticket 🤩💅🏻
I think I lost the most expensive Award title !!!

I graciously reclaim the title 😬 ($1935 taxes)
Can anyone tell me if the 'class of travel' has bearing on these costs please?

My understanding: Same route, same carrier, same class. You can only change date and/or time.

Hang on. Can someone clarify this rule for me.

Before commencing the first flight I'm able to make any changes to the itinerary as I wish: change routes, add and subtract legs, etc for 5,000 points per change.
I have always been under the impression that I cannot make ANY changes (including date and time) to the itinerary once you commenced the first flight.

So we can still make slight changes (date and time of flight) to the itinerary during the the OWA trip?

Per the T and C's on the QF website....

14.7.6 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward flight before departure of that flight, provided the booking contains one or more Flight Segments that are not within Australia, and the Flight Segment(s) being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change. Any such change will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:
(a) change to flight number; and
(b) change to date of travel.

So we can still make slight changes (date and time of flight) to the itinerary during the the OWA trip?

As per the Rule @cjd600 quoted and of course, provided you can find availability on the same route, on the same carrier and in the same class. Depending on the route, availability may be your greatest challenge.

Taxes $1935.........for one....................I win, unfortunately............

Oh damn. That's ludicrous.

Can you clarify this for me please? I have just booked my flights on a Qantas Oneworld award for a trip commencing June 2020, using dummy dates for the latter half of my flights as I am not intending to return to Australia until March 2021. I am operating under the assumption that I have 12 months to complete my itinerary from the date of my first flight. So as long as I leave on the "ticketed departure date" then I have 12 months to complete my itinerary? Is this correct?

Yes, I believe your understanding is correct. In my original post (that you've quoted) I was wrong. I did correct it a few posts later when some more intelligent members noted it. Apologies for the scare.

No apology needed - thanks so much for that. I have done some additional reading and was hoping that my assumptions were correct. However, I'm very much a beginner at the Qantas Oneworld Classic Flight Award but learning all the time - with your clarification I'll rest a little easier!!

To select seats use manage your booking on CX & IB website or app. I found it works for CX but not IB.
