Due to some problems between the Qantas and Cathay Pacific computers and related booking systems, CX flights as part of a Qantas award are not able to be booked online This problem has been around since early this year. quote]

Is this true for all CX flights???? As I was trying a RTW OW award booking and no CX flights from BOM to BKK or HKG would show up. I just took it for granted that there was nothing available on these flights

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

Is it possible to do this section:

Toronto > London
London > Amsterdam
Amsterdam > London
Lond > Syd

Or am I "backtracking" ?

Thanks

There are no rules regarding back-tracking for a QF OneWorld FF award. It is just based on the total miles travelled, including return to the point of origin even if you don't fly that return segment.

As a general question, and I realise this depends on when and where you want to fly......have forumites been successul in booking RTW Awards say 9 months out??? or is basically too late???
I booked a QF Oneworld RTW award on 3rd April for travel beginning 6th August and returning early September which included using up all 16 segments and 5 stopovers. Planning took well over a month and the routing changed a few times as award seat availability was changing by the day. So it is possible you just need to be a little flexible and be creative in getting to the required destinations.

The final routing was SYD-MEL-LAX-IAD-STL-ORD-LHR-ATH-LHR-FRA-HEL-ZRH-HEL-BRU-LHR-HKG-SYD.

Note that every segment you have increases the +++ component payable; there have been reports of around $900 for a 16 segment RTW oneworld Award.
I paid $935.12 for my 16 segment Oneworld RTW award.

For 140,000 points (142,500 if you book over the 'phone) with a Qantas FF oneworld award, you can in WHY:
  • Book any available itinerary of up to 16 segments, at least two of which must be on different oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas.
  • Travel no more than 35,000 miles.
  • Have up to five Stopovers (maximum).
  • Only one Stopover is permitted in any one city.
  • Only two Transfers may be taken at any one city.
  • Have one or more Surface Segments (distance is included under the 35,000 miles).
Note that every segment you have increases the +++ component payable; there have been reports of around $900 for a 16 segment RTW oneworld Award.
I may be missing something really simple here... but I cannot see how to select a RTW ticket on the Qantas Award booking interface. A simple RTW itinerary of MEL-LAX-MCO-LHR-MEL for two adults and two kids comes to 692,000 points as opposed to a RWT fare (140K per pax) of 560,000. What am I doing wrong?

Use the 'multi' option. When you add a trip on a the second different oneworld carrier (other than Qantas), it will automatically become a 'oneworld' award itinerary with the up to 140K pp rate.

There is no special wayof booking a Oneworld RTW award. You just use the mult-destination option and add destinations and when all the conditions have been satisfied it calculates the RTW award at 140,000 FF points. If something is not quite right then it will calculate individual segments/trips.

How many Oneworld carriers other than QF have you selected? By the looks of your itinerary you have may have only selected QF and AA. For a true Oneworld RTW award there must be at least 2 Oneworld carriers in the itinerary other than QF.

Ah - that would be it. I thought that I had selected a BA flight across the Atlantic (AA for MCO-DFW, then BA DFW-LHR), but I had mistakenly selected an AA flight to the UK. Doh! Thanks for pointing that out John.

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

Hey guys.... I'm also a Newbie that this.

I have 200K in points to play with.
At the moment I am looking at:
BNE-LAX-YYC-JFK-LHR-BKK-SYD-BNE

I have worked out that this will work as around the world for 140K.

I am planning on leaving around the start of March and then being in the US/Canada for around 2 months. Then I'm not sure how long im planning to spend in the UK. Therefore if I am to book this now I can only get to the end of November 2008.

Once this booking has been made and I know that I can change the booking for a 2500 point fee, but once I have left BNE am I able to make changes to the itinerary???

thanks for your help.

Welcome to AFF mudgee_27.

As far as I know changes are not permitted to Award flight bookings on partner airline flights or oneworld Award bookings once travel has commenced. You can cancel, re-route and change the class or date of your Qantas Award flight booking up to 24 hours before departure by contacting the QFF service centre.

Now keeping these rules in mind you can only book a maximum of 353 days in advance, 330 days for partner flights, so if you changed your Oneworld award a day or so before you departure then the last sector cannot be more than 353 days in advance from the first sector. So if departing March 2008 then you will need to return before March 2009.

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

Hrmm that’s what I thought unfortunately....
My other option is to do it in separate flights....

BNE-LAX= 48000
LAX-YYC= 25000
YYC-JFK= 36000
JFK-LHR= 25000
LHR-BNE= 64000

Now this makes a total of 198K which is still under my 200K!!!!

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

meh, why a question a bit random now, is the QFF program a cost thing, do you get points for going on JQ, and isn't JQ setting one up soon, will it be in association with a debit card etc, yes i know this is a question out of the ordinary:lol:

The Terms and Conditions seem to have been tweaked slightly to allow revalidation, but not reissue after travel has commenced. Revalidation changes are now permitted after departure on oneworldTM awards as long as it is not a paper ticket.

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

Revalidation refers to changes to dates and times, Re-issue refers to changes to Carrier, Segment or Airline.

See Section 7.3

Not quite. It is actually based on status which is calculated using distances and class of travel. Plenty of threads that explain the mechanics behind QFF program or look up QF website.

DJ has a FF program that is based on cost of airfares.

milocole said:

Only if you pay for Jetflex or Starclass airfares.

QF will, in theory, setup a FF program for JQ soon. It is believed that this will be sometime in 2008, possibly August.

This is not the thread to continue this discussion.

OK, thanks heaps, i didn't know that you couldn't use them on Jetsaver fares, thankyou

Hmmm.. you can't earn QFF points on Jetsaver fares. As for "using" them, you may book an award seat on an aircraft but that is not a Jetsaver or, indeed, a Jetflex booking.

using points for a round the world trip

I seem to recall that it was possible to redeem points for Oneworld tickets, such as explorer products.

On looking on the Oneworld site, I coudn't find any reference to this.

Has this been discontinued ? Does this mean that the only way to redeem QF points is for point to point services ?

Re: using points for a round the world trip

You can construct a multi-city oneworld award on QF based on the mileage of the journey. You dont buy a similar ticket to an explorer it is just a more complex award.
