Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I
when airlines make changes to an itinerary, you can sometimes accept changes via manage my booking - thats what i mean by 'online'. I suggest you don't do this, else you may waive Qantas' imperative to help you by removing the sector.
I've used +61 477 726 827 to txt QF while overseas to rejig award flights.

Does anyone know if the wait time is as long when ringing the call centre from overseas on +61477726827? (If so, don't know if there is enough phone credit in the world to cover it.)

Same wait time as if you're calling from Australia I believe.

Hi,

I’m curious and sorry for the bother, I know it’s been asked before: did you use this number to upgrade from economy to J? ( same flight)

I have one leg on Finnair in economy and wonder if they will release any seats in J closer to travel date. That flight is in mid October and my trip is set to commence on 19 August.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Firstly you should forget any thoughts that QF would accommodate your choice to go to Casablanca when it's got nothing to do with your OWA itinerary because whatever travel you intend to do between your OWA sectors (i.e. your "surface" sectors) is immaterial to QF. At best, they will help you to get to the next leg of your OWA itinerary, but won't help with your added travels, so talk of exceeding the 35,000 mile cap is a moot point.
You have to embrace the fact that your OWA itinerary and the rest of your travels are separate and distinct - you might as well just start making your own alternate arrangements.

Here's a conundrum for those kind enough to help!
I have had my Amm-Fco(Rome) leg canx by Royal Jordanian Airlines due to Corona virus. (I am now in Jordan on way to Tel Aviv.)

MEL-ADL-DOH-AMM(stop)-TLV-AMM-FCO(stop)- DOH-SIN(long stop)-LHR-HND-NRT-MEL

I was only intending to transit in Rome in order to get to Casablanca (have paid for flight Rome to Casa which I will now forfeit).
I had originally thought of asking Qantas to offer Amman-Casablanca OR Tel Aviv- Casablanca (delete Tlv-Amm) as an alternative BUT realised that would exceed the 35000 mileage.
I don't 'think' there is any alternative route I can put to Qantas in order to get to Casa without exceeding mileage cap?? Do I have to just bite the bullet and pay for a flight from Amman to Casablanca??
Be very grateful for confirmation on my thoughts or opinions on alternative??
My head is spinning! HELP....

I don't believe your ''surface sector' travels count towards the 35,000 Mile Cap.
Only the miles from point A (where you land to commence surface sector) to Point B(where you resume OWA / Finish surface sector) so if you are paying for seperate tickets in between A and B thats not really OWA relavant. aslong as you make it for in time for Point B flight, Or you make an adjustment to that that flight (if possible)

OK, NOW I'm really worried. Further to my previous post re cabx flight Qantas sms customer service has suggested getting me to Casablanca from Amman via Dubai WHICH WILL THEN TAKE MY OWA BOOKING WAY ABOVE THE 35000 MILEAGE CAP to over 38000?? I stated my concern to them and the answer was:-

As per checking, it is allowed to extend since the change is airline initiated.

Has anyone else ever experienced this or have knowledge of it being allowed? I am scared to accept in case then the rest of my OWA is then rendered null and void!?

Keep the SMS's. However airlines are able to break their rules but you aren't!

Is it possible for me to see a flight on the website that Qantas consultant can't see?

Trying to add an AA flight from SCL to DFW in January 2021 but it's not popping up for the Qantas consultant.

They told me it's false availability and their IT team is updating the website....

That's a great result for you, pottsy. Has QF ticketed the changes to CMN via DBX? I'd be very nervous until they did so. Maybe they're prepared to take your miles well above the limit because it won't cost them anything since they'll be passing on the cost to RJ. While your luck's in I'd buy a lotto ticket as well!

Yes.

It’s known as phantom availability and IME is most common with CX and JL, but can happen with other carriers.

If the sector shows availability of QFF, check BAEC or JLMB.

If it’s also showing as available there, push the QF agent to search again. If they still can’t find it, HUCA.

The other point that I think has been raised on this thread is there may be more than one way to search from the operators end ie another screen or program

@pottsy if going via DXB should they use an Emirates flight that could also afftect a OWA validity.

Very tricky time for OWA flyers. I've done the first half of mine & set to resume in mid May with CX, flying PER-HKG & HKG-BCN. The HKG-BCN leg has already been "closed for reservation", so I'm guessing that will likely be cancelled 🤔

No problem using a non OW airline if that's what they choose for you. We had a OWA flight cancelled when a mechanical problem couldn't be fixed and were put on a Lufthansa flight.

The test will be whether it tickets, or not. I would expect the computer to say “No”, as the 35,000 mile limit is exceeded, and therefore it will not ticket.

However, once a trip has actually started, airlines can then do whatever is necessary (i.e., airline initiated) to keep you moving (including exceeding mileage, transits and stop-overs).

yeah it’s showing on the British Airways site as well when I search with Avios.

i’ll try calling again...

I've waited over an hour from a private phone in the UK!
