Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

LATAM only release seats 330 days in advance: that is, up until 25/1/21. Even then, seats on that route (either QF or LA) are quite limited.

Cool, that makes sense for LATAM on the SCL to LAX route. Thanks for that!

But my main source of confusion was the lack of any avaliability for the QF flight to SCL.
Guess i'll just have to wait. Maybe they only release them at 10 months or something...

HELP PLEASE! Sorry this is long winded but I am in panic mode! I am part way through my OWA. I 'was' supposed to fly with Royal Air Jordan on the 15th March, Amman-Rome. (Then recommence the OWA from Rome on 22nd April.) I have received notification that this flight is canx and I have been put on a flight on the 17th March instead. I have connections (not part of my OWA) and hotels booked for 15th onwards, from Rome. Therefore my question is: Can I ditch the '17th' Amman-Rome leg of the OWA and make my own arrangements (with another airline)? Then still recommence the OWA from Rome at a later date (as originally planned)? In a nutshell, am I penalised for not flying this booked leg, even though it is the airline that has canx the flight (on the 15th)?? WILL THE REST OF MY OWA FLIGHTS STILL STAND?? (I think I have read that if you miss a leg the whole OWA is null and void??)

Pottsy, in actual fact you will not be missing your flight because you can't board a flight which no longer exists due to cancellation. The real problem here for you is that RJ doesn't have a suitable alternative until 2 days later. Even non OW alternate airlines have no direct flights for the date you are booked to travel.
My experience is that where a OWA is disrupted for whatever reason beyond the passenger's control (weather / mechanical / cancellation), there is never any suggestion the rest of the itinerary is at risk.

This is the relevant rule:
14.3.9 If a Member fails to board a Flight Segment of an itinerary containing only Classic Award Flight Segments, the remaining Segments will be cancelled. The cancelled Segments will only be reinstated if Classic Award seats are available. If any Segments are reinstated, the Reinstatement Fee will apply (see the Fee Schedule). In addition the Points required for the entire Itinerary including both travelled and reinstated Segments will be recalculated and any additional Points required will be deducted from the Member's account.

Thank you 'so much' for that information 'vertrade". (I have been searching for the conditions myself to no avail() i have just received a further email from Royal Jordan Air stating they have now also canx the flight on the 17th! SO, according to the conditions you sent I presume I am free to pay for another flight on any available airline (wear the additional cost) 'and still resume my OWA from Rome on 22nd April??
However, unfortunately it is a little more complicated and long winded, if you would be so kind. The only reason I am/was flying Amman-Rome (which is canx) at all is that I need to get from Tel Aviv to Casablanca. TelAviv-Amman-Rome with Royal Jordan Air is the only One World routing available (I have made a separate booking Rome to Casablanca).
Obviously now I have no need to go to Amman as I cannot get to Rome anyway! I would therefore like to book a flight myself from Tel-Aviv to Casablanca with another airline where far more flights are available.(and wear the additional losses and costs) HOWEVER', 'as Royal Jordanian has not canx the Tel Aviv -Amman section of the OWA: 'My question is', if I ditched this flight that is no longer necessary, would that be perceived as 'not turning up'and would I be penalised?? DO I NEED TO TAKE A POINTLESS FLIGHT, TEL AVIV-AMMAN (through no fault of my own) SO THE REST OF MY OWA WILL NOT BE CANX??
Please let me know if I have not explained clearly, (It is the middle of the night here and I am tired).
Be very grateful for any insight.

Call or SMS Qantas with the above information and see what they say. There has been a change that is not your fault, you want to remove flights from the itinerary. DO NOT accept the changes online as that would void your wiggle room. Edit: and do this before no-showing for any legs, as that is what will trigger the auto cancel.

I agree with exceladdict that you need to contact QF and request they delete both the TLV-AMM and AMM-FCO sectors from your itinerary (to keep things "tidy" I wouldn't ask them to just remove the AMM-FCO leg). Despite the obvious silliness of taking the TLV - AMM flight it is still a bona fide segment on your itinerary that you shouldn't unilaterally decide not to take.
Hopefully there is a direct TLV-FCO flight you can then book

Like others have said. See what Qantas can offer. I know BA flies to AMM. Perhaps there might be some option via LHR? Or IB/BA from TLV?

I have just completed my first OWA booking for later this year. Before starting with this thread I didn,t know that OWA existed. I would like to thank all, collectively, for their inputs enabling me to book this ( with the help of credit card points) and with minor compromising. If I was to offer a little advice it is to call at around 6.30 am EST for the best chance to get either AKL or HBT Call Centres. My only frustration was dealing with MNL and Capetown Call Centres - avoid at all costs and don't be afraid to HUACA.
My itinery is:
MEL-SYD -SCL in J
SCL - BUE -SCL ( paid)
SCL-MAD-PRG in J
PRG - TLL ( paid )
HEL - HAM in Y
HAM - LHR-JFK in J
JFK-LAS in J
LAS-SFO-MEL in J
I was also pleasantly surprised at the low taxes and surcharges ( about half of what I expected)

Once again , thank you to all who participate and offer advice.

I'm struggling to get a direct flight with AA from SCL-DFW. There are no flights if I search directly but if I search SCL-HND, then SCL-DFW is shown along with DFW-HND.

Is it possible to get the Qantas staff to book SCL-HND via DFW and then cancel the DFW-HND leg?I tried explaining this to them but they keep saying they can't see any reward seats for SCL-DFW or SCL-HND.

It could be a married segment. You won't be able to book SCL-HND via DFW and cancel the DFW-HND leg.

Could I step out of the airport after the SCL-DFW flight and collect my bags?

Read the first line of 14.3.9 as posted by @vetrade below. The rest of the flight segments of your OWA would be cancelled.

Sorry to be a nuisance but is it the 131313 number I sms to? (Doesn't seem to work?)

I've just read online that Qantas sms is only available to customers 'in Australia. Is that correct?

I just waited for 2.5 hrs then spent 30 min on the ph to change one of my sectors from premium economy to J!

Sorry exceladdict what do u mean my NOT accepting the changes online? Edit? If I can get them to remove the flights wouldn't that be 'online? Apologies for my lack of knowledge!

when airlines make changes to an itinerary, you can sometimes accept changes via manage my booking - thats what i mean by 'online'. I suggest you don't do this, else you may waive Qantas' imperative to help you by removing the sector.
