Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I called up and cancelled, should get the points back in 24-48 hours and taxes in 10 weeks. I intend on closing that Amex to avoid the annual fees and so I can get that value in cash instead of credit.

Hi all, first time poster but have been lurking for a while.
I made the first J leg booking online last week, for 1st June 2021. I was just looking at my credit card and the transaction has vanished, money is back in my account. No correspondence from the bank or Qantas. The booking is still active on Qantas and i resent the tax invoice and it states ive paid. Slightly confused as to whats happened, if they have cancelled it, or some sort of glitch.

I can see quite a few people have had bookings cancelled recently, are they cancelling June 2021 bookings? Do they not give you any notice when they do this?

Do you have an e-ticket (with a number starting “081”)?
Have the points been deducted from your account?
If not, then that would suggest that the booking has not been ticketed and may well have “dropped out of the system”.
Even though you can see the booking in Manage My Bookings, it’s not truly valid until you have the e-ticket.

Yes i have the eticket and the points were deducted and remain at that level.
Its really odd, up until yesterday the transaction was there. Today i noticed there was extra money on the CC, went through and found the Qantas transaction has vanished, not a refund or anything just gone and the funds back in the account.
Update: The bank have no idea what happened, they cant see the transaction at all either. Now to talk to Qantas

So Qantas cancelled my entire booking yesterday

First leg was 20/02/2020 and this was our honeymoon

SYD-SIN
SIN-CMB-MLE
MLE-DOH-CDG
CDG-LHR
LHR-EDI-HEL-KTT
KTT-HEL-DOH-SIN-SYD

Phoned QF today and confirmed all taxes will be refunded but could take up to 10 weeks and all points, 318k per pax will be refunded

The honeymoon will now be in Aus.

There goes almost a years planning and booking. :(

Now to look at cancelling all the accommodation.

Does this mean you've commenced your travel and then cancelled?

Mine were back in 2-3 days (recently), no longer than that
I cancelled an OWA for 2 people about 2 weeks ago, and I was told 10 weeks for both points and taxes. So far I haven't seen anything other than the reservation disappearing. (On srilankan.com I can retrieve the reservation, and it just has a dummy flight from QZW to QZY)

Just a followup on the issue with the transaction vanishing.. Appears it was some bank issue - transaction was completely gone from my card for 3 days but is now back.... Odd.
With todays qantas news im feeling quite grim about my booking, even though its for 1st June 2021! :/

I'm hoping Joyce's prediction is a bit exaggerated - hard to believe that international travel wont get started til July 2021.
I can understand exceptions like USA or South American countries being off limits but i would hope Europe would become accessible in less than a year.
Joyce is a political animal - he may have motives to say that the shut down will last longer than he really thinks .
But who knows?

So I was optimistically creating an itinerary for April 2021 which should have just become available with my bronze status and I noticed there are no sydney to Johannesburg flights available. I switched to paying fares and noticed that there are not even any flights scheduled. Did I miss Qantas cancelling this route?

AJ indicated this week that there may not be international QF flights (other than to NZ) until mid-2021, and that QF would be reviewing routes. I have seen flights available to some destinations (e.g., to the US). Maybe it’s just that the SYD-(PER)-JNB schedules for 2021 aren’t loaded yet.

June 14 shows award availability so the route doesn't appear to be cancelled entirely, although I checked random other dates without any luck (my experience with this route in the past = tough to snag award seats.)

When flights to JNB will resume is anybody's guess because Covid-19 is far from under control in South Africa and the number of infections is still rising, with the real infection numbers probably dramatically understated because of lack of testing. You need to keep in mind that unemployment in many areas is as high as 50% and SA has people poverty stricken and literally starving to death, especially in the townships. In the capital, Pretoria, people are lining up in their many thousands every day just to get subsistence levels of food. Crime rates have escalated from already high base levels because people have no job and no money so they have to steal and rob to survive. Their hospital system is already under strain. We regularly travel to JNB to visit family but they are telling us that the Covid situation there is on a knife edge and any thoughts of ending lockdowns and getting back in the skies are a long, long way off.

I think you should abandon thoughts of going to JNB in April next year because that's unlikely. ATM we are just hopeful we can get there by the end of 2021 but we are far from confident even that will happen.

I made a change to my J OWA commencing mid next year and have just found I have been charged a International Service Fee of 7,700pts. Does any one know what this is for? The operator never mentioned any service fee and there should be no change fee.

That is the Service Fee amount, but should not apply to J bookings....call and get it removed.

Fee for International:
For bookings made prior to 18 December 2019: 6,000 Qantas Points per passenger
For bookings made on and from 18 December 2019: 7,700 Qantas Points per passenger
