re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I don't think Australian residents are able to create an account to search there.

Just use a non-AU address.

Here's one:
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, D.C., DC 20500, United States

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all. Just a quick question as I am looking at using points to do a rtw next year. If an adult is worth 140,000 points , do children ( Ihave a three year old ) also get charged the full 140,000 or do they only get charged 75% of the points?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Full 140000 as far as I know.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I thought I was semi experienced with these fares after booking 2 online in the past few years but I cant seem to work out why my tests are going over the 280k for a J award.

I was under the impression that this fare isn't specifically around the works and can be up to 35k miles, 16 segments and 5 stopovers, or close enough to that.

I've been plugging SYD-JNB-HKG-LAX/JFK-HKG-SYD into the tool and I can find J availability all the way. However after HKG-xNRT-LAX leg the mileage is 277k which is great, then the next segment I choose the direct JFK-HKG on CX and the mileage blows out to over 350k points.

Up to getting to LAX I've used QF/CX/AA so I think I've satisfied the 2 carriers other than QF rule.

Can anyone steer me into the right direction as to why the points cost is blowing out? The land segment between LAX/JFK is against the rules somehow?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

syd-jnb-hkg-nrt-lax-jfk-hkg-syd in gcmap.com is coming up at 35,914 miles. This could be one reason why it's not working.

Ahh yes you're right.
Silly me.

Thanks aikman.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Guys must you use QF on a 280k award booked through QF ?
Or can I use say QR and MH only ?

I want to book:
QR: CGK-DOH-LHR-AMS(stop),
MH: CDG-KUL-MEL(stop),
QR: MEL*-DOH-MED(stop),JED-DOH-CGK

Comes up to <32k miles 3 stopovers, 12-13 sectors.
*If must use QF, then we will do something like MEL-PER-DOH

Cheers

No you don't need to use QF, must use at least two carriers other than QF IIRC

AFAIK you don't have to use QF, two other carriers are fine.

Hmmm, OK. I always thought it was QF and 2 other OW carriers. I could be wrong though! I'm sure a quick squizz at the T&C would sort it out ;)

The oneworld[SUP][SUP]®[/SUP][/SUP] Award Classic Award table is based on return flights, unlike the Qantas Award table.
This oneworld Classic Award table only applies when your Award itinerary includes at least two oneworld alliance airlines other than Qantas. The itinerary may not contain non-oneworld airlines otherwise the travel planner of each individual airline will apply. Qantas flights operated by Jetstar Airways (QF200-299 and QF4950-QF5999) cannot be included in oneworld Awards*.

You could be right.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

...

You could be right.
Nup - A QFF oneworld award does not need to include any QF flights. While this is also answered up thread, see here:

Thanks for clarifying that. Yeah that's the bit I read somewhere when I said you didn't need a QF flight

and yes you already did answer it in the thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

After much procrastination I have now booked my 140k award. Taking 27 weeks to go around the world.
Late February - end August 2014

Booked flights are

Canberra - Sydney - Auckland (24 hours) - Qantas
Auckland - Santiago - LAN
Lima - Miami - American Airlines
Toronto - London - British Airways
London - Johannesburg - British Airways
Johannesburg - Hong Kong - Cathay Pacific
Hong Kong - Melbourne - Canberra - Qantas.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Just over $1500 I think. I am not 100% sure because I booked the flights to Santiago back in March and booked the rest yesterday. I think I paid about $450 then and it was $1083 or something yesterday. I think they charged me the $80 on top of that plus 3500 points to change the booking which I had to do over the phone.

I booked a new one for my girlfriend but that was done online. She is not coming to South America, meeting me in Miami. I gave her about 90k points so now she is paying for my new Amex Platinum which includes 80k points.
