Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I can confirm that the flights under the Oneworld aware are eligible for the drive service as long as all the other standard criteria/routes are met.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

First start with 420K QFF points plus about $2000 + another 10K or so for assisted booking fees.

here's a quicky ...

Great Circle Mapper [SYD-LHR-MIA-LAX-JFK-LHR-BKK-HKG-SYD]

Good luck on getting the MIA-LAX-JFK segments in First ...

I can only have 5 stops though can't I? So will have to simply transit via some of those airports?

Also is LHR-BKK with BA? and what about BKK-HKG?

Hey all - longtime lurker of this thread, as I assembled the points necessary to book a six-week holiday next June.

1) BNE - PER - DOH - MAD with QF/QR/QR
2) MAD - LHR - OSL with IB/BA
3) OSL - HEL - JFK - YVR with AY/AY/CX
4) (independently getting to PDX) PDX - ORD with AA - this is the only leg not in J
5) ORD - NRT with JL
6) NRT - SYD (787!) - BNE with JL/QF

280k points, 6k booking fee, $872 taxes and fees.

Thank you for sharing this you've just planned my next trip.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Big thanks to everyone here. Booked 2x J tickets in October next year:

SYD-MEL-DOH-BCN/PMI-LCY/CDG-LHR-HKG-SYD

560k points and $1800 taxes for both people. It failed to book online (teething problems with QR I think) so had to call up. She didn't even raise the booking fee, so neither did I, and we weren't charged.

Appreciate all the great feedback and advice in here from everyone.

Cheers.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi Folks!

Long-time lurker now looking for some help/confirmation for a honeymoon trip.

Looking at a 280k Award for her plus a DONE4 ex JNB for me in March 2014. We currently have about 160k points combined.

So the Award flight would be

1. SYD-JNB-LHB-LYS - skiing in French Alps
2. LYS-LHR - London and Paris (depart Paris next leg to save on APD).
3. CDG-MIA
4. MIA-LAS
5. LAS-HNL

Main concern:
1. Does the surface sector from London to Paris count as a single stopover and thus stay within the 5?

I would then fly SYD-JNB on an award ticket and fly the DONE 4 on the same routing.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

It should count as a single stopover (the segment distance of course would be included in the total).

Perfect. Distance is well within the 35k limit at around 28k.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Booked a oneworld J award today. Prepared mostly online, then booked over the phone, with the booking fee waived. Fines/charges of $1100.

CBR-SYD QF Y
SYD-NRT JL J
HND-HKG-ORD CX J
ORD-DCA AA Y
DCA-MIA-LIM AA Y/J
LIM-SCL LA J
SCL-AKL-SYD LA/QF J
SYD-CBR Y

I didn't maximise stops, sectors or miles, but it got me to where I wanted to be when I wanted to be there.

The QR website is a good place to select seats on all oneworld airlines (at least those in my itinerary), which the QF website wouldn't let me do.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Can anyone please point me in the right direction to actually book one of these 280k award RTW tickets? I've logged in to the QF site, clicked the button for award flights and then clicked the RTW button. It takes me to the RTW planner site, but only ever results in a dollar price. How do I make it display in points? I've also tried doing it through the multi-city thing, but I've yet to ever have success in getting that to show anything other than error messages. Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Instead of clicking the RTW button, click the multi city option above it.
Then when you are plugging in your segments make sure you click the "Search Qantas and Partner Awards" box before you click "Search flights".

Thanks for the QR tip. I'm going to book my J award today and will try their website first.

Can anyone confirm what seems pretty clear that only one open jaw is now permitted on the oneworld Awards? Also any advice on whether it is possible to hop from one city to anothe toanother, keeping transits under 24 hours and thereby not using up one of my stopovers?

Tip 1: you don't have to go RTW.
Tip 2: in the Multi-City booking tool, make sure you check the "Search Qantas & Partner Classic Awards" option.
Tip 3: choose unpopular dates waaaay in the future.

Good luck!

What makes you say this? It is true for AAdvantage oneworld awards but not for QFF oneworld awards.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Just a question if someone has some advice I have my OWE Award in J Booked for June and July 2014, my outgoing flights from Melbourne to London are with MAS via KL...I am just wondering if I have made the right decision there - have flown MAS before and happy with their service but believe is not a lie flat bed, but thats sort of OK too, I am just wondering if I should have tried for Cathay via HK and now not even sure of availability and not sure being a WP if seats could be opened up. The MAS flight gets into London very early hours and there is no arrival lounge for use either, if anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful, if not will leave as is. We are currently booked to leave Saturday June 7th. When looking at availability on that date there does not seem to be much available now.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi,

Cathay seats are definitely better than Malaysian. I have flown Malaysian First Class and that was fantastic but the business class leg to KUL was just average.

CX has a habit of opening up unsold inventory between 30 days out and right up until departure. I would personally stick with your Malaysian flights at the moment and just keep a monitoring watch on CX. Then about 30 days out check availability much more regularly and I would almost guarantee that you will be able to swap to CX.
