Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thank you so much. That is incredibly helpful. Will sign up right away and start searching.

Should have added that BA from NRT to LHR also has great availability, including in First. But can't have the kids thinking this is the 'normal' way to travel. Will use my points for them to fly J to Europe/US/Asia long haul, but otherwise they are just going to have to earn the money (or points) to pay for or upgrade themselves...

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

BA Executive Club website. Free to join. Gives JAL availability (amongst considerable number of others) and number of available award seats per class on each flight. I was just playing around with to/from Japan actually. Most flights will have none or one seat in business class. Then you get random results like one flight I saw had 7 seats in First available...

Apparently, I can't join if living in Oz. Any tips?

You can. You need to provide an address in the UK where they will send you your card to. Make it up or use your friends' or relatives' there if you really want the piece of plastic. All you need is your BA Executive number which you will get online and see on the screen and in an email. Use it to check the availability on the website

Colrad whilst I wish you luck on your quest I think you'll find it difficult to do a RTW for 5 in J even splitting amongst different Oneworld partners. From what I've read on AFF getting that number even on a point-to-point return is very difficult and requires booking almost a full year out. I'm also in the 5x category and as far as I've seen Virgin Atlantic is the only airline which has 5+ seats available on a relatively consistent basis.

If you don't have any luck but still want to go Oneworld business class at a good price search the forum for Malaysia airlines miles + cash option which does not book into an award class hence more availability - a good way of getting to Europe at least for mid-high $3k range (save yourself ~$350p.p. UK Air Passenger Duty by not departing UK long haul in Business class). Just a backup consideration if the QFF option doesn't work.

Thanks Knasty. I know what you mean re: trying to get 5x in J on the same flight :(. I managed to pull together a pretty good dummy itinerary whereby we shared some flights and had to split the touring party across a couple of others e.g. sending 3 back to MEL via DOH on QR and 2 via HK on CX, but getting back into Melbourne literally minutes apart. Alternatively, Emirates still has reasonable availability for 5, if you are happy to go on the 777 via SIN. Wish they were part of OW and therefore in the 280k RTW deal. Anyway, have plenty of time (being restricted by the school holiday timetable) and enjoying the challenge.
Mrs Colrad thinks I'm a bit obsessed, but as far as mid-life crises go, it could be worse! ;)

Brilliant! All done and can now see reward availability across multiple partners including JAL. Seems a U.S. mailing address is sufficient to set up a membership ;)

Hi guys,

Sure this has been mentioned here before but couldn't find it quickly and short of time to read all 1000+ posts; please forgive.

If I book a classic award from SYD to LHR in Y, can I upgrade to PY or J with points? If so, any idea of the points and $

Thanks JV

I don't have personal experience on this but if the QF website is anything to go by then the answer is going to be no.

  • Flight Upgrade Awards may be requested on most Qantas Any Seat Awards but are not available on Qantas Classic Awards.[SUP]*[/SUP]
* Flight Upgrade Awards are not available on Classic Awards or on international airfares booked in E, N, O, Q or X class, which includes some Qantas Any Seat Awards and some international Red e-Deal fares.

You mean a 140/280/420k award (I only ask as this award doesn't specifically have to be "Around the World")? If so then absolutely, it can be booked online with points.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Use multi city booking NOT the RTW option.....and yes does not need to be rtw stay under miles and go where you want

This thread is solely about using points.

There is some information on the first few pages of this thread, but basically the award booking converts to oneworld award from partner classic as soon as you select the second *O (not QF) carrier.

I have not tried since the changes - however it should still be possible.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Will try the multi city method using points.

Hi Ed,

The 280k award is a OneWorld award and my understanding is that it can only be booked for travel on OneWorld airlines. Emirates is not a OneWorld airline.
This doesn't mean you can't book a multicity journey using Emirates - you can - but don't expect the points to be capped at 280k as per the OW award.

Cheers
