Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Thanks I believe Alaska is owned by AA.
I'm not sure that's right. But in any case, IB and BA are both owned by the same holding company and they count as separate airlines - so even if AK and AA had common ownership they would still count as separate members of OW.

Just called to try to add a number of flights to my booking and the agent said they keep getting an error. They advised me to book the separate flights online and then they can combine it with the original booking.

Is this a good idea or should I just call again? I'm worried they won't be able to combine and I will pay above the 318k OWA points.

OK have called again last night and no more error. But they can't seem to find any seats for one of my JAL flights despite the fact I can see it on the website. I tried again this morning (can still see on the website) but they still can't see it. The BA site also says there's 5 seats available.

Given cancellations are free, could I book the flight online, cancel it and hopefully it might refresh the seats on their end?

I believe they have a different procedure in searching for JL award flights. The agent you were speaking to probably just didn't know how.

I have been trying to repair one pre booked OWA booking and set up a new one.

I have noted that the “married Segment “rule seems to be being applied more strenuously than I remember in the past or is that just the impression of a jaded frequent flier? (I have found Qatar and Cathay particularly problematic in the past .)

The very competent QFF agents I spoke to told me that their requests for multiple flights (e.g., A-B-C) in one segment (i.e., between 2 stopovers or start or finish of trip) need to be requested as A – C not A-B-C. There needs to be specific award availability for the thru segment.

Maybe I have forgotten how much this happens with Qantas. Sure, I am used to flying say LHR-SYD and then not being able to get a connection to whatever other capital city I was based at on the same day even with award seats available for that individual sector.( I just paid a cheap economy far in that situation for the domestic flight .)

So, I needed PHX-LAX-SYD for next June. . Business class award seats were available both sectors individually but not available if the QFF agent put in PHX-SYD!!! To be fair , maybe AA is the problem rather than QF. In the past, some agents were able to overcome this issue with a few keyboard strokes but not now.

In the case of the most recent occasions, a request was made to the “droid” but refused.

Similarly, I wanted to travel MEL-JNB and found individual sector award seats available via Sydney , but the agent assured me that the computer would only search for the ADL-JNB combined flights – No seats were available for that flight!

Maybe in the past, if I booked up far enough ahead, there were alternatives on other airlines so that I just clicked on another option and was not concerned.

I guess it is positive that I was able find rare QF seat availability mid next year but sad not to be able to take advantage of them.

I am hoping that past alternatives for long distance trips to USA or Europe like Finnair, JAL, or Cathay start getting their acts together and relieve the situation .

Safe travel to all.

Married segments don't apply across carriers, so on the assumption LAX-SYD is QF the agent is flat out wrong.

If this is for a new OWA, book it online and add your other sectors later.

What would happen to a booked tickets validity if a flight route change ie flying around Russia instead of through has the effect of making the total trip over 35K miles?

The mileage is calculated from the departure airport to arrival airport. The actual flight route doesn't matter.

What about some of the Qantas flights that fly MEL-LHR via Perth? Would the mileage be calculated for MEL-PER-LHR or MEL-LHR?

Looking for some advice if this is possible. The beginning of my trip looks like this:

SIN-MEL
SYD-LAX
SFO-JFK
+the rest

I can't add more segments due to the 6 flight limit, but if I call up would they be able to book it all? I didn't have success when calling up and asking to add segments (they claimed they couldn't see any business domestic flights).

Ideally something like:

SIN-MEL
MEL-ADL
ADL-SYD
SYD-LAX
LAX-SFO
SFO-JFK
+ the rest

Ta for your responses.

The sector LAX to SYD is QF.

I did call again re the PHX-SYD flights and the agent rang his supervisor to check on this issue . You are correct that this was not officially a “ married segment” .It’s a commercial arrangement between AA and Qantas which comes into effect once AA is flying to Australia again- presumably by the time of my travel . Sounds like a married segment by another name.

Sadly no Alaska Airlines options which the agent said would be ok.

I was however offered award seats (business in one sector ,the other in coach ) that were allowed under that “rule” but it involved going back to Chicago.

I’ll ring again tomorrow to see if I get another answer.

That's certainly the first time I've heard that. It could very well be the case, but I would try a few agents first before giving up.

I have had lots of frustrating occurrences with AA rewards unfortunately. For example, being able to book a mixed J + Y award on the Qantas website, but the agent being unable to do so because they cannot see it on their end, meaning it can't be added to an existing booking.

Tried 4 agents and also asked them to try a different procedure but still no luck. They said there's only one booking search system.

Very strange because one agent helped me secure other JL seats for other routes in the same month but they can't find a single business class seat for this flight in the entire month despite multiple seats showing on the Qantas and BA websites. To be specific, this is NRT-MEL in August.

Hi guys I have a business classic rewards booking for this coming monday 29th August flying from dublin-london heathrow-sydney with a refuelling stop or layover (iam not sure) in singapore as per below screenshot:

I am wondering will my bags be checked in to go straight through to next plane at the london heathrow connection? It is on the same itinerary and was booked as one booking.

This is a 2 hour connection in London Heathrow terminal 5. If I have to collect bags i wont make the flight so that is my concern. Also even without collecting bags a 2 hour connection in heathrow is a concern. I do not have to change terminals as i arrive and depart from terminal 5. Flight radar shows that the incoming flight BA 829 has been on time recently.

My concern is obviously that I miss the connecting flight or my baggage does. Any advice would be appreciated. Also if I or my bags do miss the connecting flight will BA get me on the next available flight considering that all flights concerned are operated by BA or will I have to start calling up Qantas (which no one wants to do atm).

Thanks in advance for any advice..
