Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I made the call to add return sectors to my existing OWA booking today and as expected things went a bit haywire. The first staff member sounded like she knew what she was doing and all seemed to be going well with all the flights I had planned available. Then she said there was an issue with a "duplicate sector" and I couldn't fly out of Helsinki twice. I questioned this as I'm flying out of Tokyo 3 times on the same trip and after speaking with a supervisor she came back and read the me the Flight Conditions (which don't prohibit flying out of the same place twice). Then she said it was not possible and fobbed me off to the frequent flyer centre to explain the rule who promptly transferred me back to reservations. I then spoke to Eli in Fiji who was very helpful but came up against the same error which he couldn't explain or work out a way around but said if I want the trip for 318,000 points it will work if I remove the one (existing) flight HEL-AGP (which I was happy to lose). So he updated this, took the extra taxes and correct points (adding up to 318,000 each) and also agreed to send the request to manual ticketing rather than put me in the ticketing queue (but wouldn't let me wait on the call) and said he'd ring me back if there were any issues. I'm going to a call again re ticketing to make sure it happens but wondering if anyone has heard of the issue around not being able to fly out of the same airport twice? I remember a mention of a system issue with transiting twice in the same city but not sure why this would be an issue for one city (Helsinki) but not another (Tokyo) on the same OWA trip.
Thank you

I guess that got you off the line, so they could spread some more rubbish to someone else. ❤️

HUACA, HUACA, HUACA ………. 🙁

Just sorted out a canceled leg by AY after a combined 15+ hrs on the line to incompetent agents mainly in Fiji and Phillipines. These are some things I was told by them
- to cancel ticket
- can’t mix classes ie downgrade segment
- no available options (there clearly was)
- pay for a revenue ticket on non OW airline!
- call back in a few weeks
I found Fiji far more incompetent and unwilling to try to solve the issue. I somehow managed to maintain my cool the whole time but gave up trying the HUACA method so I wrote a nice email to Qantas chief customer officer and within an hour I had a someone call me with three options available, I chose one and had the new e-tickets 5 minutes later.

So after 6 calls, 3 hours on the phone, 4 HUACA, and 2 apparently competent staff I finally have my OWA e- ticket with return flights added. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself until I noticed the extra points have not been deducted from my account (extra taxes have been paid). Should I be worried? Call back or wait and see what happens? I don't have a good feeling about this......

The points will be deducted at some point. You have the e-ticket. Enjoy the trip.

Hi,

I'm trying to book 2 seats, preferably J class, from Casablanca - Amman via anywhere in the region as part of a partially booked OWA. The call centre advises that only 1 seat shows as available in each class on the relevant flights into AMM on RJ on the specified days (mid September). The operator seemed to be across what my aim is re OWA and spent a fair bit of time looking at alternatives so I accept what was said - although the QF website did say 2 seats were available when making a dummy booking.

From experience, is RJ likely to release more seats in the next few weeks (months)? Or should I look at alternative arrangements to get to Jordan (eg fly to Cairo and separate trip to Amman)?

Would it be a prudent move to sort out the desired flights back to Aus from Europe in early October 23 when they become available in a few weeks and fill in the blanks between CMN-AMM-Europe later?

Thanks

Yes to booking return flights as soon as they are available. I am not aware that RJ releases more seats nearer the date, but I am surprised if alternatives are not available (e.g. using QR, BA, AT, etc.or combinations of them).

I'm looking to travel in 2 x J in BNE/EDI/LHR/BNE October 2023, and am doing a few dummy bookings now to see what airlines/flights/routes might be available when the (few) Classic Rewards seats become available. I have enough points for QF and/or partner airlines, and happy to jumble it up a bit and use QF plus two others to make it a OTW if needed. Obviously going to have to be flexible but what I can't understand at the moment is a SYF/HKG/LHR routing coming out at 179k points per person, instead of the 159k shown in the Rewards Tables? What am I missing? And as soon as I add a third flight (eg QF from BNE to SYD) to make it an OTW booking the multicity tool just gives an error message.

It's pricing as two partner classic flight rewards: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/use-points/classic-flight-rewards/tables.html#partner

SYD-HKG = 74K
HKG-LHR = 104.5K

If it priced as a oneworld award, it would be priced as a return trip ie SYD-HKG-LHR-SYD, which is 318K. So it is giving you the cheaper price.

It might be worth checking with some other search engines (eg AA, BA, CX) to see if they can also see two seats. If so, it might be operator error. I would keep calling back to see if you can find an operator who can see both seats.

Thanks for that. So even if I use QF plus two other Oneworld partners it won't become a OTW until I return to point of Origin, I get that now. But even if I just want to fly SYD/LHR, how do I book it so it only costs, the 159k shown in the Table? And in any case as soon as I add a third leg to the multi-city tool so i cant do any of the above. I successfully booked a OTW trip BNE/SYD/SFO/JFK/LHR/FCO/HKG/BNE 3 years ago but a simple return to LHR now is defeating me :)

You don't need to add QF to make it a Oneworld Award; it's two airlines other than Qantas which you already have.

I was sure I had have to have a QF leg to qualify for OTW , (which I was going to do anyway BNE/SYD) but I'll double check.
From the T&Cs:

14.5.1 A oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Classic Flight Reward Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Member Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Member Airline.

and you don't need to go around the world, either.

Thanks. Yep, I knew I didn't have to go around the world, but for some reason thought I needed a QF. Even better now :)

No, No, No …

Just take our word for it. 😀
I will, and thanks. I did it all 3 years ago but it's a lot harder this time round.

Anyone finding any decent J seats from UK/Europe to the Far East (Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand) for Aug/Sept next year?

The only route I can find available I'm having to book LHR - BLR/BOM on BA (though these are Club Suites routes!) then Malaysian from either of those cities to KUL. Even that doesn't show up as an option - only found it by searching manually. 20hr connection between so will require some time in either Bangalore or Mumbai.
