For the "ultimate F experience" maybe SYD-LAX (QF) LAX-JFK (AA or QF) JFK-HKG (CX) HKG-LHR (BA) LHR-DXB (QF) DXB-SYD (QF), comes in at 34,864 according to QF but is 34,930 on GCM, changing MEL for SYD puts it over at 35,059, any better suggestions with opportunity for another stopover or two?

That itinerary violates the rule of not crossing the Pacific more than once.

And you are right
You can cross oceans as many times as you like as long as you're under 35k
The rule about crossing the Atlantic or Pacific only once applies to the OneWorld Explorer fare which is a revenue fare (money). The 140/280/420 fare is a Classic OneWorld Award fare (points). Don't confuse them

I have done several itineries with 4 crossings of the Pacific, ie return to Santiago and return to LAX ( all in the one ticket) with a 6 month break in between, its just a matter of complying with the rules and not accepting the shutdown "you cant book that" when ringing to book, ( I always say refer to ,,,,,, as they are familiar with this type of ticketing.)

Make sure you look at what other offers are around as well; plenty of discussion here on AFF.

Here is a challenge that I'm sure one of you will just go "that's easy", I want to fly MEL-NRT-HNL-MEL using points. Can't seem to do it online no matter how far down the track i look, as QFF tries to route me through Sydney to get to HNL from NRT.

Please help. No specific dates as such, just trying to see if its possible first.

That's easy !!!!! The NRT to HNL leg is operated by JL but their flights are not available on the QF website so your only option is to book it by phone.

To get a 140/280/420 award you need at least 2 OneWorld airlines other than Qantas. You will have to chose CX or MH and JL to do this routing on top of your (I assume) QF flight back to MEL from HLL

Was that itinerary with two departures from Australia?

The reason I ask is that I'm looking at doing a OW 280K J-Class redemption involving two trips to the Philippines (one Manila and one Cebu) ostensibly ex-MEL, but I presume I would need to start the trip somewhere else (ideally in Australia) and have a 3-month "stop-over" in MEL between trips. Something like SYD-NRT(Transit)-MNL(Stop 1)-KUL(Transit)-MEL(Stop 2)-HKG(Transit)-CEB(Stop 3)-HKG(Transit)-MEL(Transit*)-SYD(Abandon) was what I had in mind, but when I rang QF, they stopped me at the 2nd departure from Australia. What the QF agent said would work is to start the trip overseas such as AKL (for which I'll need a separate redemption for the one-way flight from MEL to get started) and then I can have multiple departures from Australia. I'm now looking at AKL-BNE(Transit)-HKG(Transit)-CEB(Stop 1)-HKG(Transit)-MEL(Stop 2)-KUL(Transit)-MNL(Stop 3)-KUL(Transit)-MEL(Transit*)-AKL(Abandon).

For anyone who has done something like this, does not flying the last sector have any potential adverse consequences? Does this sort of thing work?

No problems in not flying the last sector, but after you have flown all the other sectors ring QF and ask to change the date of the last sector to AKL and they may charge you an $80 fee but the date can be moved out to not more than 12 months from the date of the FIRST FLIGHT on the ticket, not the booking date, and although you would be able to book it with a stopover as you already have only 3 and you are allowed 5 and then you can start another "big ticket" trip from AKL of to see the world again. Lets know how you go

I'm not sure if that would work as it would turn the 2nd "visit" to MEL into a stopover rather than a transit and my understanding is that you can't have two stopovers in the one place.

That is correct. It would only work if you can change one of the MEL stopovers to SYD/BNE etc.

You are quite correct, but I have had success in changing dates of future sectors after some sectors have been flown, as often they don't go back into the original routing/rules to check how the change would effect the "legality" of the change when compared to the original booking.

Hi there, I've been reading and reading this thread and searching, but no answer! I wonder if someone could help me.

I want to book a OneWorld Award 140K flight (economy class). We haven't decided on exact routes but it will be something like Sydney-South America-USA-Europe-Asia-Sydney. We will be travelling for 1 year.

What is the baggage allowance? Will it just be 1 set of rules for baggage for the entire journey? Or will it be different every time depending on the airline - by the way, is it the marketing carrier or operating carrier that governs the baggage rules? Thanks for your help.

Baggage allowances vary by carrier but will generally be 20kg per passenger in Y. Having the trip stretch out for a full year will be problematic when you go to book as you can only book about 350 days ahead and for upcoming departures you may find it difficult to get redemption seats, but if you keep yourself flexible with dates and destinations you might be in luck. I've found trans-pacific quite hard to find redemption seats out of Australia, so I'd suggest something like syd-hkg-jfk-gig-mad-doh-per-syd.

The baggage is confusing. I've booked a J fare and I was expecting different rules for each carrier, but CX tell me that as it's a QF ticket I get 2 pieces for each flight

I believe that the two pieces of luggage has more to do with the itinerary (single ticket) including the USA than which airline has issued the ticket.

I suspected the same, but CX said to me it was to do with QF ticketing. My belief is that you're right and the person I spoke with didn't understand it.

Provided it sticks, though, I'm not too fussed
