Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Have you looked at QF15 BNE - LAX - it's often still got J seats when the MEL or SYD - LAX flights are full. There may still be availability for Feb/march next year

Yes there are a few popping up, but A380 vs B747 is a small factor

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

hi. I have two question if someone can help please.
1. I need two business class seats from gye to mia, but Qantas advised me it looks like there is only 1 seat released on AA902 everyday (various dates show just one business seat). If I get one seat, will AA release another seat shortly after? If I do it over two days it will cost me two booking fees.
2. I actually need two business class seats from uio to mia, but can't seem to be able to see availability on the direct flight lan ecuador or AA does daily. I can however see the connecting flight uio-gye-mia using lan ecuador (xl1517_and AA902) on the BA executive site. But when I rang Qantas they said they can't see this option. I thought if I could see it in BA executive site, Qantas would also see it. Is this the case ? They checked and confirmed that I can use lan Ecuador (xl flight) using my points
thanks

Thanks, that's not too bad then, but I have pretty much missed my chance for MEL or SYD to LAX for Feb/March next year, but this will be good for another trip later on.

My original understanding was that everything needed to be booked at once :(

I agree with vetrade's observations. I booked 2 x J Awards doing exactly this. Securing the trans-pac's as Classic Awards online, adding the flights back to SYD later when they became available and also a couple of further change to the booking at a later stage changing internal AA flights when J became available instead of Y. All subsequent additions were done via the call centre.

AA has just cancelled completely the ability to book multi-stop OneWorld awards

While they were somewhat more flexible than the QF version, they did serve the same function.

Predictions on the status of these QF awards?

Happy wandering

I had always thought they were somehow a commitment of OW membership. If AA cancel them why would the others continue?

Maybe that's the first act of a staged withdrawal from OneWorld? Wouldn't that make planning a RTW award so much harder!

Does this mean I can't book an AA flight in my 5 stop award trip that I'm half way through booking ? I'm two days off my AA seats being released.

Wouldn't think you'd have a problem. The news doesn't say you won't be able to book AA award flights through QF (presuming that's what you are doing).

Is the ability stopped completely, or just stopped online or ???
AAdvantage "Explorer AAwards" can no longer be booked. I am not sure they could be done online in any case although ISTBC.

Hi everyone

New to posting on the forum after reading for some a little while. I was wondering whether anyone could provide any tips on what are some good options to go return from Brisbane --> Singapore --> France/England/European airport easy to get to from Singapore. I'm planning a trip for my wife and I and have found so much useful information on the forum albeit a lot to absorb ... I have 450k points (300 on AMEX and 150QFF) and am hoping to be able to get us a business class flight across the the trip - I hope I am not dreaming!

Apologies for sounding like a complete amateur.

Lots of options in Europe/UK CP3 and the choice will depend on what your preferences are. Would I be right in assuming that you are finding the range of choices quite daunting? Perhaps you could start by telling us how long you intend this trip to be and if you intend to have a stopover in SIN. Also do you intend to just go to one city in Europe or travel around. Do you want to see churches, beaches, historical places etc ?????

And do you (or SWMBO) have a "MUST SEE" city?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Does anyone know what exactly counts as a "stopover" and what is a transfer? E.g. If I flew into Brisbane one evening then flew out the next morning as part of a oneworld award, would that use up one of my 5 allowed stopovers or would it just be a "transfer" if less than 24 hours?

Less than 24 hrs = transfer; More than 24 hrs = stopover

Transfer
I am doing exactly that in August - Sydney to Brisbane at 7.20 pm, overnight. The next morning Brisbane to Hong Kong on CX at 9.30 am. It does not count towards the 5 allowed stopovers

Thanks for the reply. You're right in that I am finding the choices daunting! I am planning on a month in Europe in September but was thinking to book the major parts of the trip first and then organising the rest - I guess if I am trying to book with points I better get in asap.

I was thinking of Paris as that is one of the must visit places for my wife (first time in Europe and all) - we're both keen on visiting the historical sites etc. A stopover in Singapore for a week before or after Europe was on the cards as we have friends there. Is that the best strategy? Book the major parts first with points so it's all locked in and then work around that?

Thanks again for the reply - greatly appreciated. :D

Paris.........good choice - will score plenty of brownie points if you take your wife there; it's a beautiful city and there's plenty of day trips to Chateaus etc too! I don't think there are OW direct flights from Singapore to Paris but you could connect via Doha easily enough or even Dubai. You haven't indicated when you intend to make this trip but obviously the further out you book generally the better the availability will be. Availability to London can be more of a problem but if you bypass there and fly into Paris you could fly with an airline like QR, which apparently has a very good J product.

First up you need to do your own "legwork" - suggest you checkout the interactive planner at oneworld.com for routes and flight schedules and start making decisions.
