Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi everyone,
I am looking at booking a 140,000 point oneworld award in Y but can't seem to work out a combination of flights which works. I am looking at the following flights as a starting point but the total I'm getting is 186,000 points. I thought I was within the conditions for the oneworld award but obviously I'm missing something. Any suggestions?

26 May QF1550 CBR-BNE
29 May QF97 BNE-HKG
8 June BA26 HKG-LHR (only in transit in LHR)
9 June BA990 LHR-TXL
10 Feb (2015) BA995 TXL-LHR (again, only transiting through LHR)
10 Feb BA247 LHR-GRU
23 Feb QF28 SCL-SYD (transiting through SYD)
24 Feb QF1525 SYD-CBR

One of the parameters of these types of awards is you must use 2 airlines other than QF.
Switch your BNE-HKG to BNE-SYD-HKG with the SYD-HKG sector on CX (or instead of LHR-TXL on BA try LHR-FRA-TXL with the FRA-TXL sector on AB, etc) and the itinerary will come in at 140k.

Great, that works! Changed the HKG - TXL leg to Finnair/Airberlin via Helsinki. Thank you.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

i'm looking for uio to scy on lan ecuador as a return flight, not part of a 280k trip. qantas advised me i can use my ff points for those flights, 14000 qantas ff points each way. However they said they can't see any seats released yet in Jan 2015. I logged into my lan account and looked for award seats on uio-scy for Jan 2015 and i can see seats available and it is approx 25000 lan points. not sure why qantas can't see them.

It may well be a glitch with what Qantas is seeing but it may also be the case that LAN doesn't release their award seats to partners (or at least to Qantas) until closer to the date.

If you search "Classic Reward redemption tables" in the QF search box it will take you to the various tables and the "Oneworld Classic Table" states The Oneworld Classic Award table,,,,,, only applies when,,,, at least two Oneworld Alliance Airles other than QF,,,,,,,,

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Yep - still under the URL #jump13. :p

14.5 Classic Awards - oneworld Award booking conditions

14.5.1 A oneworld Award is a Classic Award Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Alliance Airline.

14.5.2 Classic Awards using the oneworld Classic Award table must be no more than a distance of 56,315 kilometres (35,000 miles). Longer journeys must be broken into separate Itineraries.

14.5.3 A one way oneworld Award Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Award Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Points required to redeem the Flight Award and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.

14.5.4 The following Stopover conditions apply:

  • up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
  • additional Stopovers are not permitted;
  • only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
  • only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.

14.5.5 Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Award Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Award Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.

14.5.6 Where mixed-class travel is booked, the whole Itinerary will be calculated using the Points level for the highest class booked.

It wouldn't be the first time one section of the QF website said white and the other said black with the actual answer being whatever the QF staff member on that particular day decides.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

i thought I responded yesterday but it didn't seem to post.

When end I booked my one world award, I booked the Sydney - Santiago flight as soon as I could because I knew there weren't many available. However the rest I just booked when they were all available and pretty much got what I wanted. The 3500 points is the change fee no matter whether you change on the phone or internet. When you change on the phone (which you need to do to add more flights) they also charge you $80 or I think you can pay 8000 points.

Therefore my my advice is do your research as to which routes are hard to get any maybe book those as so as you can but the rest try and book a few together at the same time.

Hi everyone,

Some great advice on this topic but I have a few questions that may or may not have been already answered.

1. Can you actually add flights online to an existing booking or do you have to ring the help desk
2. Does the $80/8000 point fee apply to J and F bookings. I thought I read somewhere that is doesn't and it will add up if I end up making 2 or 3 amendments x 2
3. How do you end up paying additional Taxes (fees) if you like I intend to do, book half your flights and them come in later and complete the booking
4. Is there any trick in getting the J trans continental flights from NYC/Miami (I would prefer from Miami) etc to LA. So many dummy bookings and most of the time I only see a few economy flights being offered though occasionally the full range does come up. Also do you think the United alliance will change availability after Mar 31

Thanks in advanced for any help on the above

Regards,

Nick

Hi everyone,

You will need to phone up.

2. Does the $80/8000 point fee apply to J and F bookings. I thought I read somewhere that is doesn't and it will add up if I end up making 2 or 3 amendments x 2

As far as I know the fee is not waived for J and F bookings. Platinums don't routinely get fees waived so I don't think this would be any different.

3. How do you end up paying additional Taxes (fees) if you like I intend to do, book half your flights and them come in later and complete the booking

When you phone to make the changes you'll need to pay then.

4. Is there any trick in getting the J trans continental flights from NYC/Miami (I would prefer from Miami) etc to LA. It's possible that AA releases fewer award seats on their three class flights. I don't think there's any trick.

Hi Nick, the $80 fee is waived for premium classes as it was waived for me during a recent J award. I have heard from others that you can sometimes get the 3500 waived, but everytime I have tried they can't do it. The additional fees you can pay via credit card each time you change your booking.

Thanks Danger and Tallie,

I might try and limit my changes to one if possible - Sth Afr and Europe next week and the USA and Sth America legs in about 6 weeks when they become available.

Nick

Welcome to AFF Stephen. The topic of this thread answers your first question.

Please have a good read through the thread in it's entirety. Another great function is the "search this thread" feature located at the top right. More than likely your question has been answered before.

To be blunt - ONEWORLD award = only one world airlines - emirates is not one world and you can not use it on these tickets (and if you do the point price skyrockets)

I've had success with this. These flights don't always show up online at QF. What you are looking for is Business/First MilesAAver awards on AA.com. It's possible to snag at least two IME and note that AA don't always release these at 331 days out.

If not 331 days out, is there a particular time IYE when they are released, Princess F?
