Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

For a moment there vetrade, I thought you were going down to the "sub-second" difference between UTC and GMT, but your reference to GMT and daylight saving suggests you are equating GMT with London time. Apology for the off-topic post.

The ins and outs of clocks / time zones etc are certainly not my forte', Spongbob, so I'm happy to concede my ignorance if something I wrote was incorrect. My understanding was that at the moment London time is the same as GMT but that they are 1 hr different during the UK summer. Feel free to enlighten me if my post was inaccurate. :)

QF website so frustrating!
I have no idea what is wrong with my RTW search!?

  • Qantas.com flight search error:
We are unable to find the flight recommendations for requested segment (s) %s to %s on airlines that we search. (#9207)

Some of them I will do as surface sector.

Well I'm still trying to figure it out.
Is this valid?

SYD - ICH (Stop) - (Surface) - CTS - SFO (Stop) - (Surface) - LAX - JFK (Stop) - LHR (Stop) - (Surface) FCO - SYD

I've tried on the Oneworld website and it is accepted.

That looks fine. 5 stops it is...what's the total mileage? Must be under 35K miles

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Also, they way you input your cities into the itinerary is wrong. If it's a surface sector between London and Rome - you don't include it in the search engine otherwise it thinks you're going to fly between them

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

So I just spent entire day, literally... on the QF website to find the perfect combination.

I reach the payment page after entering in personally details and I get a massive error :(
Massively raging right now.

Just give them a call. Their booking engine is full of bugs. Tell them you get an error message and they will book it for you waiving the phone booking charge

For an economy RTW award, can you seat select Exit Row (& pay) on QF flights?
Thinking about a QF1 out, QF8 return (also with BA & AA domestic).

Yes, I think you can blu. Your Y award shouldn't be any different to a paid fare in that after you have your booking you should then be able to pay the fee for exit row seats just like anyone else can.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thanks, so I need to check exit seat availability on EF before locking in.
Do I just use the QF Multi city booking option, with the Award box ticked for a OW award itinerary?

Yeah, if you definitely want an exit row seat you'd need to know it's available before you book on particular flights. The actual flight itinerary is done through the Multi City option with the awards box ticked as you said. Once you have the flights confirmed you can use MMB to pay your money and select specific seats.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I made a couple of flight changes yesterday to Jnrs & my itineraries. Pretty basic change, flying HKG-ADL instead of HKG-BNE (saves overnighting in BNE before heading home to MEL). My new/amended E-ticket came through will the changes, but Jnrs, whilst showing correctly in MMB and CMT, emails through without the changes.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Sometimes there might be a lag, check again a little later.

Also, did your points for changes got deducted 3,500 or 7,000. Another way to check - points got taken off very smartly.

I just checked the booking again and nothing has changed. It is all correct on the Qantas screen in MMB and also on CMT, but upon requesting the itinerary be emailed to me from QF MMB, it's still showing Jnr's flights HKG-BNE & BNE-MEL, instead of HKG-ADL & ADL-MEL. I phoned QF on about the 20th November and they said it is not an issue and everything is fine, it just takes time to get it ticketed.

It's been almost 3 weeks since I changed the original booking. Do I need to follow this up again with QF or should I assume it is all ok?

If everything was OK it should have been corrected by now. The only one who will be messed around if there is a problem will be you so I'd chase them up again.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

After many hours of searching and having problems with QF website which didn't allow me to book.
Turns out one of the CX award flights from Hong Kong to Toronto didn't exist.
Ended up calling them and making an even better booking via the QF phone booking.
Originally was going to USA first then Europe, but couldn't get flight from Japan to East Coast USA, so went London first then to USA.

2x Business RTW 560,000 + 12,000 (booking fee)
Taxes $1277.54 per person = $2,555.08

SYD - HongKong (stop) - Seoul (stop) - Sapporo - Tokyo - London (stop) - Berlin - London - New York (stop) - Los Angeles (stop) - Sydney
Total 13.5 weeks

Was able to get all Business class except to the domestic Sapporo to Tokyo (1.7hr flight), but very little difference between J and Y for this one.

Thanks everyone for your help. QF phone booking is highly recommended.
Wouldn't have been able to get JAL flights if didn't call them.

Great itin! Something to remember for next time is the fact you had JAL flights in there is a good reason to at least ask the booking fee be waived. YMMV ofc.

Couldn't get the person on the phone to waive the fee :(
I mentioned the only reason why I called was because of website error... then they gave me a sprill about some of my flight were made by request only etc etc.

Just check on your point about JAL, sadly the QF website makes it quite clear about JAL flights only by phone and incurs a fee.

So JAL flights are bookable only by phone and will always incur a fee? MH aren't visible on QF either, does the same apply in terms of fees?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Long time lurker, appreciate everyone's input to date. It has helped me a lot in planning and partially booking my One World Award.

I have partially booked so far and I have spent way too much time on the phone with Qantas trying to get the rest of it booked to no avail. I'm booked between July and early Nov 2015.

Our Itinerary:
MEL-HKG-CDG (Stop) - Booked
MAD-JFK (Stop)
JFK-LIM (Stop) - Booked
LIM-CUN (Stop)
CUN-DFW-LAS (Stop)
LAS-LAX-HKG-MEL

I have called the call centre to book the MAD-JFK flight and despite it showing up online, the call centre are unable to see the availability and it can't be booked.

We have similar issues with our LAX-HKG-MEL flight with Cathay but there is some availability for that one.
