Oneworld separate ticket interline changes

Hi all, I’m flying this weekend for my honeymoon on a QF award ticket (Syd to HKG) then connecting to a BA award ticket on KA metal (HKG to Shanghai). (2 hour layover)

Do you think there’s a chance QF will check our bags through to the final destination given both tickets are on Oneworld flights? If not, can I drop by the Cathay transfer desk and get them to help?

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated!!

Qantas should check the bags through - print this page and show it at check-in if they say they can't do it.

Interline and Through Checked Baggage

It's worth noting that BA will NOT check your bags through to Qantas on your return journey.

EDIT: Argh, just saw this is award -> award. You may not have any luck...

Since they are separate PNR's and both are award redemptions, bags might not be checked through.

If not, that two hour layover is going to increase stress levels, especially if the SYD flight is late.

Thanks guys. Is it possible to visit the Cathay transfer desk in HKG and ask them to check the bags through to Shanghai by giving them the QFF bag tag numbers?

In other words, do we have to go through immigration, physically pick up the bags and recheck them through?

In HKG you would be better off just going and doing it yourself.

Thanks again for all your comments and advice. Ultimately decided to cancel the separate HKG to Shanghai flight and asked Qantas to add that flight to my existing Qantas PNR. Hopefully that fixes things given both Qantas and Cathay Dragon are oneworld AND both flights are now on one PNR.

That'll do it.

What was the cost of cancelling the BA redemption?

Got the Avios back but lost the taxes (60 pounds all up for 2 pax). A small price to pay to take out the stress - might even get a chance to enjoy the lounge!

Given that the QF and KA flights are now on the same PNR, does this mean I’m protected if the QF flight is delayed and I miss the connecting KA flight? In other words, will Cathay put me on the next available flight in the same class of travel?

With a single ticket and PNR you should be protected.

I've been successful using the transfer desk(s) numerous times in HKG but others have reported they've not been successful.

Just wanted to ask about my situation. We have a paid ticket Syd-scl return, over on QF27, back QF28. Then I did a reward booking Cbr-syd. Coming back we arrive from SCL at 17:40 and then booked on the last flight to Canberra at 19:35.

As I understand it, Qantas to Qantas is ok and we will be checked through in Santiago and if Qf28 is late, then Qantas will rebook us the next day (and maybe even accommodation), but I am not sure if that’s right. Can the brains trust please advise? And should I phone up and ask them to link the bookings or does that make no difference?

Call up and ask for a "LKRL keyword" to be added to both PNRs and ensure your FF numbers are in both PNRs with identical matching passenger names in both PNRs.

Eg. Mr John Smith in one PNR and Mr John R Smith in another = no go.

If you're not able to get reservations to do the LKRL thing as madrooster suggests just ask them in SCL to check your bags through to CBR so have the SYD/CBR details handy. That way if QF28 is delayed QF Ops will see all pax with oncarriage and in a lot of cases be able to rebook them while QF28 is still in the air.

It's probably not the end of the world if you were only checked to SYD and missed the SYD/CBR flight as staff could verify that you were late inbound on the QF28 and would hopefully rebook your SYD/CBR flight.

Thanks I am not too fussed, as when I booked it I thought I might get delays and have to stay overnight and book new flights home, but if it can get it done by Qantas that’s all good. :).

linked record - I was assuming - maybe it’s some sort of database key word that links them.

link record locator (I believe).

Both correct. It's a Amadeus feature but only if the airline has enabled the option.

For the crafty people here thinking great I can get PNR A containing a QF SYD-MEL flight to be linked to PNR B containing a CX MEL-HKG flight... no that's not what this feature is for and no it does not work. It's strictly for linking PNR A and PNR B where the two PNRs contain flights on the same carrier and only if the carrier has it enabled - QF/CX do but BA/AY/JL/QR do not for example.
