I received this e-mail from Expedia this morning regarding sale fares to the US:

Virgin Australia Flights Sale: Great Deals to the US | Expedia.com.au

The e-mail shows shows special prices apply for flights from 1 Feb 12 until 30 Sep 12.

I checked the flights on both the Expedia website and the Virgin website - both have no such fares for the whole of that period! (There are some similar fares, some higher, some lower, for flights until March 31).

I'm really sick of this blatant false advertising by online travel agents!

I noticed that too. I guess if they say "from" a certain price then there might be a couple of fares at that price... The dates I looked at, the price was double what was advertised.

Isn't that what marketing is all about? Con people into purchasing something at a price they would not normally purchase....

I just checked Feb.... $1142 Return. Not that I'd do it... I was just interested.

I just found $1284 to SFO in March, which is cheaper than the advertised $1415.

Its not just Agencies that do that.

Qantas recently advertised on the web site special business class flights to Auckland from I think it was $429.00 each way or maybe $329.00 was thinking good way to earn some points and S/Cs tried to find dates as had a friend going but Guess what .............. You got it couldnt find a single day that had that price.

dare I even mention hotel promotions..."Save 50%" or "save up to 75%".

The percentage comes off some rate than nobody pays.

Then there is the "Just two rooms left"...of which there seems to be two rooms for a long time.

I have a human agent these days. Nothing like trust in a relationship.

Well worth the fees.
