Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

Well, I’m certainly not looking forward to any of this, based on some reported experiences. Came as a bit of a bolt out of the blue. Glass-half-empty, here. 😀

Still undecided as to whether it’s going to be worth the effort. Shame about FlightTracker.

After clearing the incorrect flights, the import of my flights was relatively straightforward apart from a 1967 flight shown as 2067 - I'll be 116 then! and three flights failing to load as the airport codes somehow had an extra X at the end. Now I just need to go through and add the aircraft types.
The aircraft types are the issue... otherwise I've been successful importing my .csv into mfr24

I found the process to get my ~900 flights into OpenFlights was relatively simple and mirrored what has already been shown upthread. Dates into the right format was about the only change in the .csv file, then I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon cleaning up the flights in the OF site. If your flight list was mostly basic major airlines to/from major ports then the cleanup should be very minor.
Mine was a little more complex due to some historical airlines and airports being listed. eg: TAA, Brindabella Airlines, Iceland Express all came over as something else. I thought I'd checked the 'keep historical' box, but may not have...

Anyway, OpenFlights maintains a familiar user experience so I'm happy. Biggest advantage over AFF version is that it has a more modern user database so easier to find obscure places. Biggest disadvantage is that the 'create new' (airport, port, railway station) function isn't working due to not being able to specify a country in a drop down menu.

I chose OF ahead of myFR24 due to the simple fact of airport symbology: the pins in myFR24 seem overly cluttering and unnecessary. A secondary reason (speculation) is that the commercial nature of FR24 will see the user flight data being exploited or otherwise marketed to.

I first created an account and imported (with no issues, but it did hang/break connection to the site for about 15 minutes for me) with FR24. However, using TripIt sync was buggy as all hell and said lots were missing.

I then created an account with OpenFlights, and imported (without changing any data on my CSV including date format) and it all worked just fine. The TripIt sync is 100% and shows completely up to date. Easy.

Please see message I have just sent you
Thanks Cliff
Today I found the CSV file in "downloads" on my PC, registered with Open Flights and then Imported the file and lo and behold there is was after "parsing" whatever that is. All data came in and it looks exactly the same as before except it has dropped 1 airport in the numbers which is of no concern.
So it looks like I am back in business after all. I cannot use Excel so could not try to amend anything to use MyFlightRadar24
I went back into AFF but Flight Tracker has disappeared from the drop down menu, is this because I have exported my file? I did this to compare the data but as I had printed it out previously was able to compare anyway.

Good to hear :)

No, it was removed from the navigation menus in preparation for its retirement at the end of October. You can still get to it by HERE. (Or by clicking on "My Map" on all your posts)

Loading the missing aircraft (and some earlier missing flight numbers) is taking ages. However, it has shown up some mistakes and missing flights so I think it's worthwhile.

Getting a blank map and no data using all of these methods now.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. Just downloaded most of my flights successfully and quickly..not sure why some didn’t ‘phase’ over but generally happy.

I wonder if there are any others like me who carelessly overlooked the original email and missed the 31 October deadline only by a few hours - bye bye data!!!!!

cough happens and one only has oneself to blame.

I'd done a lot of flying in my retirement years (since 31 December 2003). Until CORVID-19 of course.

I'm sure @Admin or @support can retrieve it for you!

The data was not removed at midnight yesterday - it is still there for a little while longer. If you click on "My Map" in your profile, beside your post, you can still access and download your flight data.

I put that email aside after reading it, just sorting emails out now and thought i'd missed out also!
Just logged in and was able to download my data (phew).

I managed to download it last night, but due to exploring part of the great state of QLD on a road trip, I will need wait until a more convenient time to check it. 😀

Flight Tracker not-so-smart-move. Oops.

I missed Flight Tracker download cutoff, and I didn't see a reminder. That was a bit critical because a diary failure wiped out my reminder to go and back out my data... and I just remembered this morning. Feeling like an idiot. **Sigh** Is there any way to get the data out now?

@themaiz The data is still there.

I suggest you export ASAP.

For more on exporting, see here:

As noted, the data is still there, we have just removed direct links from profiles as we slowly inch towards clearing the data. After logging in just head to https://openflights.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/

I have the data got it last week now just to know whether I want to work on the copy and paste part.

Copy and Paste? !

I'm cleaning the data in my .csv and will attempt importing when I have time. 1975 is a few though - I hope I don't need to do 50 at a time.
