Optus $99/Mth Sim Only Plan - 60,000 Qf Pts

Probably a stupid question but am I right in assuming I will keep my number on the Telstra network up until the point that insert and activate the new Optus sim? Thinking I might wait until the last day (Sunday) to actually activate it.
Your mobile number will leave the Telstra network as soon as the porting is completed regardless of when the new Optus SIM is used.
 
Anyone had issues with the online order form? It says my number isn't eligible. I was an Optus customer with that service about 18 months ago but with Telstra at the moment.

Optus support have been useless as usual.
 
Are we absolutely sure you cant add a global roaming pack to this?
I tried to live chat with Optus and they told me to call Qantas on 131313 to add the pack?
I've signed up for myself and Mrs Ken1 today. We are both on Vodafone with eSims so I've just been to a Vodafone shop to have our eSims switched to physical SIMs. We are keeping our Vodafone numbers so have new Optus numbers. I also went to an Optus shop and asked about roaming and he said that once the service is activated you go to the My Optus app and there is a section for International Roaming. My Optus eSim is now activated and when I go to International Roaming in the app you can choose 5GB for 24 hours with Unlimited Talk & Unlimited Text for $5 or 35GB for 7 days for Unlimited talk & text for $35.

I asked while at the store how it works to activate and told him I have used Vodafone roaming where you get charged $5 for the next 24 hours as soon as you use it and he said that Optus works differently in that you have to activate it when you are ready to use it. He said that if I select $5 for 24 hours I will get charged $5 straight away, even if I don't make any calls or if I am in Australia. We are travelling to French Polynesia this weekend and FP is not included in the Vodafone $5 a day roaming so we would have to pay $1 per minute and $1 per MB for data, but it is included as a Zone 1 country for Optus roaming.

Can you port to another carrier and then just port back (assumes no exclusion period)?
Thanks for the suggestion. That might be worth looking into, but I doubt I'd be able to port to another carrier and back again within 6 days (that's when the offer ends). I thought I'd read somewhere activation can take 5 days.

I've set up two accounts today. For mine, when I applied I asked for a physical SIM since I had a Vodafone eSIM already set up in my phone, but I realised that it would probably be unlikely that I would receive it by Friday so we can use it while away so I decided to go to a Vodafone shop and have the eSIM switched to a physical SIM and I called the number that came with the Optus email 1300 303 723 and quoted the reference number and asked could they change the order to an eSIM. They checked a couple of things with me and finalised the order and an email with the eSIM setup arrived while I was speaking with her. We ordered Mrs Ken1's account this afternoon and she then received an email asking her to call and they checked a few details and her eSIM email came a few minutes later and is now activated on her phone so activation when ordering an eSIM seems to happen quickly.

Good to know. I realise I wrote activation but was thinking of porting to another carrier, sorry for the confusion. So porting my number to another carrier and then back again may be tricky in the little time available. Plus there's a chance they may still see me as an existing customer somehow, when I look at @dpeter's issue mentioned above.
 
Taking up the offer and activating a brand new number. Strange thing to do for 4 months I guess. Now we'll see how long the points take.
 
Unsure how long this has been going but just popped up on my social media feed. Seems to expire on the 17th. $99/mth with the 60,000pts credited after 3 months. Seems a reasonable deal. I vowed never to go back to Optus after a previous issue but considering switching for 3 months for this offer. They have other offers with smaller bonuses for a smaller monthly cost but this seems the best by far.

Does anyone know if one only has to avail the deal by 17th July or does the SIM card have to be activated by?
 
This may help others. I signed up for this offer simply for the 60,000 points. I don't need the mobile plan or the data as I've got heaps of data on my existing plan, and I did not want to in any way affect my current plan or my existing phone number. I already obviously have a mobile phone plan with a physical sim in my Samsung Galaxy S22. You don't have to do anything with your current plan or mobile number. or the physical sim that's in your phone now, and signing up for this offer won't affect it at all. As long as your phone is "dual sim". What you do is sign up for the offer and then you will be able to obtain what is called an "esim" (it just electronic and not another physical sim card. It just downloads to your phone). Phones such as the Galaxy S22 and other latest phones are "dual sim" so you will then have two sims running in your phone. You still keep your existing phone number and don't have to even worry about the second sim (the electronic one) if you're like me and have plenty of data anyway. If you could use the extra data, then you can use the esim for the data allowance. But main thing is, you don't have to affect your phone at all to take advantage of this offer. It's a little confusing to set up but it's not too hard. Then once set up, in my settings under "Connections" there is a sub heading "Sim Card Manager" and after you've got the esim in your phone, you can see that everything is still running on your physical sim, but the "esim" is in there if you want to use it for the data. You will then see in the top of your phone screen where it normally says your carrier's name, that your phone is now running on two services (in my case "Vaya" and then also now "Optus). But my original service is the one I'm actually using. There are instructions that sort of make sense when they send it to you via email.
 
One person wrote that they still hasn’t received points from a promotion back in March. It may take more than four months to get the points, and you can’t cancel until you do. A bit of a con perhaps.

Not sure this is correct. The terms suggest you will be able to cancel and still get the points under these circumstances. The terms say points awarded at the end of the 3rd month. Only says they are forfeited if you cancel within the 3 month period. If they are delayed and you cancel you will still be entitled to 60k pts.

Decided to bite the bullet, and take the offer.
Heading down the e-sim route, so will see how long it takes to get connected.
 
Just got the confirmation email to say the SIM card is on its way. No call you to confirm my identity.

I have a twin SIM Motorola G30, so I can drop the Optus SIM in and set it for data use, while having my normal number on Telstra.
 
Ordered the e-sim, need to call to confirm the identification.
Edit: Apparently didn't like the Optusnet webmail address as a new customer (different account holder) , re did the order over the phone and organised the port of my number.
Already have the e-sim set up instructions, so just a waiting game on the Port.

Ok so the sim arrived today, it was not clear that it will be activated 4 hours after delivery...
I called and spoke to 3 different people who all said that I had to call QANTAS!!
LOL
Absolute mess, I will be cancelling once the points hit my QFF account...
