Optus $99/Mth Sim Only Plan - 60,000 Qf Pts

Just went to cancel this week after I got the points and stop travelling for the immediate future. I'll get something different for next year. Only need 10-15gb per month, and pricing is ~$20pm.
Thanks for the tip of doing via chat. Way more convenient and I could screen shot comments.
The usual "please don't go process", then the pants dropping process on prices started.
Offered the $49/30Gb plan. No thanks.
How about $20 discount for 12mths and have that plan @ $29. No thanks.
How about $25 discount for 12mth and extra 10Gb on that plan. $24/40Gb. No thanks.
How about $39 plan / 30Gb with a $20pm discount for 12mth. $19/30Gb. No thanks. (but interested in this next year)

When cancelling, I'm not sure you get a refund but perhaps a credit.

How about we suspend for 3 mths (there is a $5pm suspension fee which will be waived), and then you can go on the $19/30gb plan.
Interested. And I use the optus credit.

I'm back on the road in Feb and will restart it then.

Very interesting rates available when you try to cancel....

Cheers.

To bump an old thread... has anyone ever received any points from the lower Qantas plans (if they stayed on them). I swapped to the $39 plan but have never seen a point. No that it matters, but I'm fighting with them over the roaming packages so doesn't hurt to add another issue.

For Optus long term, don't bother. The roaming packages barely work and the staff (including their most senior TIO escalations team) have absolutely no idea how they're supposed to work. On a recent trip to South Africa I fairly successfully used mobile data, but couldn't get a single call out. Despite SA being one of their roaming package countries (and being charged $5 per day) 3 senior managers at Optus now are adamant it's a "Zone 2" country and not included. Dealing with their staff (both here and in India) is like arguing with the dog!

Interesting. I had no problems with my mobile data roaming in South Africa in November. It is zone 1 and worked perfectly on landing for calls and data. Optus staff have got it confused with international talk which is zone 2. I had the same conversation with them before I left and decided to wait and see and it was all good.

Yep it worked while I was away… just not well. Couldn’t get a single call out for a few days but managed to get data working.

Frustratingly, this is their highest level TIO escalation team who clearly have no idea how it works. Amazing to say it, but Vodafone is a lot better!

The current Optus offer (July 2023) is down to 20000 maximum points. Does anyone know if that’s common and the likelihood of them jumping up the promotion to 60k agsin?

Who knows. Optus are so inept they have no idea how they administer this themselves, so anyone else’s guess would be just as good! I’m at the last stage of a TIO complaint in regards to this and the only things that’s clear is Optus doesn’t know how this product works.
