Febs- Systems Accountant
That's a new one to me! :p

Technically I'm an IT auditor. That's what I spend most of my time doing, but I also help with clients' (non-IT) business processes from time to time.

Working for the same firm as littl_flier (albeit in Sydney, he's in Brissie). Been with them for a bit over 18 months, and tend to travel about once every 2 months - a good mix of domestic and international. Domestic has been Canberra, Launceston and Melbourne (several times). International has been US (twice), Sweden/Spain/Czech Republic, Hong Kong, and soon India. Quite a bit of variety, which I love. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Sorry Febs, just doing my bit to make auditing a bit sexier. And it gave yourself an option to distance yourself. At least we know there are 3 auditors out there, and possibly tcsharke. Long live the auditors! :p

Note: Green is an auditors favourite colour! ;)

Plus quite a few more ex-Big 4 auditors too, I suspect. :)

I am an IT consultant. My specialty is RPG which is an IBM proprietary programming language which I used originally on a System 38 and most recently on an AS400. I have worked in manufacturing, financial, automotive and distribution areas. I have worked with this RPG for over 20 years and specialise in data migration. Unfortunately RPG is almost redundant and I have been in semi retirement mode for the last few years.

Apart from 2 years, working on an implementation project in SE Asia replacing SAP R/3 with Movex, of work related travel all my travel is now self funded for my pleasure. As much as you can call flying long haul WHY pleasure.

You could say this about many of the worlds software companies.

Only if the sales people are doing their job properly!

I'm part of a sales team in a small Australian software development company selling a niche software platform designed to make it easier to create business-specific applications.

Being part of a small company with a precarious cashflow, all travel, domestic and international is BFOD.

I also work in IT. Unlike others, I'm not a consultant but rather a specialist in certain areas for my employer.

Now as to travel - I am 95% a self funded traveller. My employer does ship me to various places around Australia (mainly for training/conferences and sometimes to troubleshoot issues), but nothing overseas yet. So most of my travel is self funded. On the prowl for a new job (definately one that includes more travel!) - think UK is my next step rather than moving employers. Any UK move is still about a year away though.

My job is a bit different to all those posted so far. I work in the music industry as a band manager. I currently look after 3 Aussie bands but they travel internationally and as a result so do I, but usually not at the same time as them. Work makes up 99% of my flights - not because I don't like to travel on holiday, but because I don't really get holiday time. I love my job enough not to care that it's long hours etc.

Ahh yes, the poor man's Cobol :p

I am sure I programmed in RPG on a DEC-10 back in the early 80's  . Twas punch cards back then. Maybe it wasn't the DEC-10, but I didn't think we had any IBM metal back then.

Auditor and Global SOX thingy.

Boss based in NY, I have responsibility for APAC but can be asked to help out anywhere in the owrld as needed. CUrrently thinking about what I will be doing from March next year... will be looking for a change and it will be hard to find something that ticks the boxes like this job - unless I can get a 2 year placement in New York (tacit approval again receivedfrom mrssimongr :))

I am an engineer and work for a small US based engineering company involved in the (industrial) construction industry. We are owned by an acountant which is where I have garnered my undue respect for this profession....

I have a combined technical and sales/commercial role (advantange of working for a small company) so get to travel for both sales purposes as well as my primary function of project manager.

The majority of my domestic travel is between SYD, ADL, PER, BNE and MEL with the occassional regional centre like NTL. I also travel to the US once or twice a year and am now starting to travel again to Asia as we look to try and develop that market. Depending on workload I spend on average about 80 nights away from home.

Regrettably we only have a Y travel policy, so any J travel is via points UG.

Mrs Shano and I have family in the BNE area so I do maybe 3 or 4 personal flights a year on top of my business travel.

Very interesting reading about everybody's jobs!

I'm pretty new here but have found this site very helpful and so think I will become a regular here, I've certainly become a regular reader and have learnt so much, and will try to contribute where I can.

My husband and I have our own business. We are importers and distributors of specialised IT products. We have also recently taken over master distribution rights for APAC for one of our US vendors. We are lucky in that we often get to travel together for work which means we can usually add in a couple of days break (even if its just a weekend) in the places we get to go. We have been travelling mainly to the US and occasionally to Europe but our APAC travel will significantly increase with the new territories. As it comes out of our own pockets and we are only a small business its discount Y for us for the moment I'm afraid.

I've always loved to travel, my father was and is a travel nut and I think I got it from him. I used to loathe flying but now that my life is SOOOO busy I actually look forward to the time out. I did work in the travel industry for a while as well.

I've been a number of things (research chemist, research manager, Technical Director) but now (very) happily retired. My only regret is that I have to pay for my own travels.

My travel is pretty much all business - I am part of a Worldwide team in a large multinational Hardware/Software/Services company with responsability for the Asia Pacific region. I specialise in our software offerings to Telcos and assisting our business partners to use that software - as well as some assistance to local direct sales teams as well.
We have a policy of under 8hrs Y, over - J. That means that most of my travel except to NZ, SIN, KUL, BKK is going to be J. The job gets me to the US probably twice a year (and because of discounts on the DONE4 airfairs, I try (where time allows) to go RTW rather than across the Pacific and back). So, with all that travel, it's pretty easy for me to retain my WP status. My previous role was an Australia/New Zealand role - so all Y travel and thet meant a lot more flying to reach the grand heights of WP Partner Gold, which I have done for the past three years.

I have also used it on a FACOM machine back in Uni. It has had a few variations from its RPGII days. It really is a very good green screen business programming language. Not quite as flashy as internet related programming but much more reliable.

Ahh yes, the original IBM Clone Computer. FNA va SNA ... thems were the days. I had forgotten all about them. Now I do feel old  .

I work in the building under the hill here in Canberra. My work travel involves following politicians around so that those who are interested (and I often wonder whether anyone is!) can hear about what's going on. I've only just started on the travelling portion of my job, thuogh unfortunate circumstances put me out of action for most of the travelling of late.

A retired physician who thinks the sun shines out of peter costello's you know where having hit the magical age of 60.So although I pay for all my travel I can earn $180000 per year with a tax rate of just 10%.
So when I am not travelling I do locums in rural ares of Queensland mainly.
Have a son living in Manhattan so that is now my second home spending 4-8 weeks there every year.
Thanks to this site and FT am Hilton diamond and by the end of the year AA explat.Means most times mrsdrron travels free.Aint life grand?

I work in Financial Markets in a training & accreditation role, based in Sydney. I regularly fly to Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane, semi-regularly to Wellington NZ, not very often to London and Hong Kong, and maybe one day to New York. All of these trips relate to training or accreditation matters.

We have an all whY policy for Aust & NZ and J for overseas (not including Aust - NZ).

With all that I've been WP for 3 years, and may get another year before dropping to Gold (maybe). While I love flying, it is approaching all the allure of catching a bus now!
