Out of Date Sandwiches

The photograph in post 1 seems to show green stuff, was it mould? I think there are some health authorities who should be interested in this, the sort of people who get involved when there's a Salmonella outbreak.

When the FAs are uninterested and disinterested, I would wonder out loud if they eat that stuff, or is it just the paying customers.

I just put a complaint into Virgin as well, I had the egg sandwich on the ADL-PERTH on Saturday and the sandwich was rock frozen. The egg mixture was frozen in the middle and the bread was icy and covered in bit of ice . I actually spat the mouthful out into the napkin . My seat mate had the same issue so I pressed the buzzer and I just politely said the sandwiches are still frozen and she just said sorry we can't help that .

Their FA's really need to be trained to handle these things better. Mine told me she would notify the CSM but nothing happened after that. No apology, and no offer of a replacement snack off the cart.

I feel the same.. It is 1 thing for incorrect food labelling or out of date food to be loaded on board, ( I can accept mistakes are made on occasion ) but as soon as it is brought to the attention of the FA, every single sandwich date should be checked and if needed remove them from every customer.

This attitude of near enough is good enough IMO is unacceptable

Yes, you simply can't just cross your fingers and roll the dice with people's health and lives, under the assumption that it was just a misprint.

If they are so confident to ignore food labels suggesting the food off - why the heck bother having food labelling at all when expert FA's can just make judgement calls about what is okay to eat and what is not?

Not defending them but it could be the case of date/time stamp being calibrated incorrectly, this can be a common error in food production and catering.

Regardless of what happened, these sandwiches shouldn't have been provided especially after a pax alerted the FA.

I flew back from LA a few weeks ago and grabbed a bag of chips from the premium bar setup. They tasted generally bland and lacking in crunch. I initially blamed the great USA and their general lack of food quality, until I saw the best before date - June 2014. It was May so I guess they technically kept it less than 2 years since the expiry...

If these were chips from the US they don't bother with a year on most fast moving items. Date would have followed US system so looking at 14 June. Maybe not a patch on CC's or Kettle Chips but they should have been fine for another month or so.

If these were chips from the US they don't bother with a year on most fast moving items. Date would have followed US system so looking at 14 June. Maybe not a patch on CC's or Kettle Chips but they should have been fine for another month or so.

Cool that's good to know. The packet just said Jun 14 which I read as June 2014 however I feel a little better knowing it was the other way around!

The use by date on this was 9/04/16, which is nearly 2 months out of date.

As you can guess, I declined eating the sandwich and let the FA know.

It says Made in Australia.

I would be far more concerned with the amount of preservatives in this thing than its use by date.

I wrote to VA few years back about a STONE in one of their pastries - back then I was gold well into getting plat, all I got was a promise for a follow up that resulted in nothing more than a voice mail 'sorry we tried to call you' and an email asking me to call back one of their SVP's as well who never followed on it or offered any compensation. I wouldn't be holding my breath for this at all.

From the photo they were made locally in Darwin. VA don't freeze their 'fresh' sandwiches (muffins yes, but not sandwiches) so someone has likely made a basic error on the label printer. A sandwich that is 2 months old isn't going to look or smell too pretty.

Most breads don't use 282 (preservative) anymore, well the ones the public can buy anyhow.
However I wouldn't be surprised if VA are using a cheapie bread pumped full of it to extend shelf life.
I'm surprised no substitute was offered.... M&Ms?

Label incorrectly calibrated is probably the problem here. The product wouldn't have been expiered at the time of consumption if the expiry date was supposed to be 9/06/2016.

The product still shouldn't have been distributed even if this was the case.
