Just follow the link to the SMH article provided. Cheers.

I am not the least bit interested in the Victorian Right-Wing Gab-Fest. The comment was regarding your second paragraph.

Actually I'll come clean. The comment was a complete time waster ..... it always is. But a good way of saying absolutely nothing whilst complying with the 10-character minimum, eh?

Ah. Sorry. Didn't spot that. Here it is again.

Just out of idle curiosity, now that we are talking spurious policy platforms, what was the ALP's position on a carbon tax before the last election? Was it the greatest moral challenge facing our generation, was it something they would never have under a Labor government, or was it some other untruth?

Another 19 charges for Thomson but mission accomplished for Team Gillard it's all been strung out long enough so that it doesn't inconvenience the ALP

Morals:
motivation based on ideas of right & wrong
Fail

Ethics:
A set of principles of right conduct
Fail

Self serving:
Serving ones own selfish interests at the expense of others
Pass with honors

That's a fairly serious charge you've made there, that the Prime Minister has interfered with a police investigation.

Any evidence or just your hatred showing?

When I first saw this thread and noticed it had gone viral after a couple of days I thought it would be good for at least 5000 posts.
I still think it has a fair chance of getting there

Nobody said any such thing.

The Prime Minister forced Thomson to sit as an Independent, even though she then made "innocent until proven guilty" her mantra. Double standards?

To be pedantic, the inference should have not been in relation to "under a Labor government", but "under the government I [Gillard] Lead".

I'm not saying that; I'm saying she stood by him until it was convenient to dump him.

I think Tony put it quite well

“It’s always been about the judgment of the Prime Minister, and I’m afraid the judgment of a Prime Minister - who was running a protection racket for Craig Thomson for months and years, long after it was obvious that there were issues - is something that remains very much in question

But yes I dislike both of them I think that's fairly obvious

....I think Tony put it quite well ....

Well there's your problem! But I digress ....

CT has been charged with even more offences!! Gott in Himmel, what could these henious new crimes be!!! Ah - he ordered a coughographical movie whilst staying in a hotel, Well surely we can dispense with the trial and just have a good-old fashioned lynching? I would hazard a guess that a few members on here have the white hoods handy ....

Maybe if they had stuck to the most serious allegations (procuring prostitutes on the company CC for example), we would by now be shot of the whole affair. I'm sure that this would have suited Labour far better than this circus, so to say that they have been interfering in due process sounds illogical to me.

Yes I was surprised to learn that all the charges come to about $50k, still a fair amount but I was under the impression it was In the hundreds.

I'm guessing his legal bill is going to make $50k look like peanuts.

If he were using his own money - as you imply - that would be no problem. The cops don't care if you watch hotel cough. It's not illegal. The rozzers don't come storming into Room 1101 to catch you in the act. The only charges laid are through Amex.

Its not even the money, really. It's the breach of trust and care. The workers of his union, and we are talking about kitchenhands and porters and so on, really do need a union to stand up for them. That's the beauty of the union movement, that they help people work as a community for the mutual good. Happy workers = happy employer.

But when we dig into the Health Services Union, we find that there were no contested elections for years, if not decades. Because the election notices would be advertised in the classifieds of some obscure newspaper in order to prevent anyone from standing for election or voting. The officials simply took their turn on the gravy train, ripping off their members.

Backed up by Julia Gillard, who depends on Craig Thomson's vote. Sure, she kicked him out when the stench got too bad, but oddly enough, he has continued to support the party that supposedly rejected him.

How can we have any faith in Labor when the union movement is screwing the workers? It's not so much about helping those in need nowadays - it's about looking after your apparatchik mates.

What tripe you write sometimes, Skyking! Where did I say he used his own money to order the movie? Of course he didn't otherwise he wouldn't be charged with this truly serious offence. And if CT gets convicted of gaining a $15(?) benefit from his employer that he didn't deserve, then we will all be in the slammer soon!

And your concern that Labour (or rather CT) is screwing the unions could be seen as touching. But I fear you are most concerned that someone else is doing Tony's job for him.

Hmmm. You said "what could these henious new crimes be!!! Ah - he ordered a coughographical movie whilst staying in a hotel ...."

Implying that ordering a coughflick is a "heinous" crime.

Really, it doesn't matter what he spent the money on - other charges relate to chocolate bars and soft drinks - the point is that it wasn't his money he was spending. It was the money provided by low-paid workers. The very people that the union movement should be protecting. And seen to be protecting.

I do love your assumption that anybody who criticises Julia Gillard's support of Craig Thomson must be a red-hot Liberal. Let me put it this way. I haven't voted Liberal - or National - for decades. If, on 14 September, Tony Abbott were standing in my electorate, I'd vote for someone else. If Kim Beazley were standing, he'd have my vote in a heartbeat. He was a wonderful politician and Labor has yet to find anybody to equal him.

Julia Gillard and Craig Thomson illustrate precisely what's wrong with today's ALP. Both are in for a hiding when the people get to have a say.

I totally disagree with the first part of this sentence, what an insult to the man! ;) Unfortunately if he had been a wonderful politician he would have made it to Prime Minister. I think he had the traits that could have made him an outstanding prime minister. But I think the big trouble with Australian politics at the moment - is the talent it takes to become leader of a political party and then go one step further and take office are not necessarily the same sort of talent that it takes to run a government - or indeed run the country - successfully.

Agree and we're about to see another person prove this after Sept 14.

Sorry. But Labor isn't going to win.

Exactly, Abbott is going to show he is at least as incompetent and useless as Liberal supporters have accused Gillard of being.

It will be interesting to line up Gillard's and Abbott's achievements at the end of his term.

You may be waiting a while. Tony Abbott destroyed Rudd, made Gillard's term hell, and will likely devastate her replacement. Neither Rudd nor Gillard have seriously dented Abbott's standing with the electorate, despite some desperate attempts. With the electorate lining up to give Gillard - and Thomson - a whack with the baseball bats they have been honing for 14 September, Abbott will have a huge majority, possibly control of both Houses, and an easy two terms.

Who will lead Labor through their wilderness years? Rudd, maybe, but Abbott has his measure. There's going to be considerable thinning of Labor ranks, and any old-timers lucky enough to hang onto their seats are probably going to retire given a suitable opportunity. Swan hasn't got the capacity for leadership, Bill Shorten has but lacks a certain something, nobody else really jumps out at me.

Err I think it's $50000+ not $15
