The only measuring being carried out is by the Parliament portrait curator for Ex-PM's........deciding how to fit in Jules must be a task and a half to say the least :D I wonder if they have already had her in for the sitting?

Well that Pinnocchio nose gets longer every day

I live out there, you live in here.

Ahhh of course... Hmmm, again all you can seem to do is put your vitriol at me Browski, I mean you're fairly (utterly) clueless about me (some would say the mood of the people as well) but you seem to think even though we are both commenting in here that you're keeping it real or something do you???

Again i will put it down to the stress of what is happening...

You live in Perth.
You like Libs, but you don't know why. (you only know why you don't like Julia)
You like Tony, but you don't know why (you only know why you don't like Julia)
You like Madagascar.
You don't fly much.

1. Yep, live in Perth and proud of it, sorry if we're expected to feel 2nd class to our Vic/NSW cousins.. But we have electricity and all sorts of mod cons over here these days to let us know much of what is happening in the rest of the country/world...
2. Of course i know why i like the Libs, the philosophy of the party, of rewarding hard work and rewarding people for putting in the effort, managing things in a financially responsible way/acting with financial discipline etc accord much more closely to my personal values than the Labor Party...
3. Elections are a two horse race, i don't get to choose either of the candidates, i think i have said before that in a perfect world you would probably hope for two different characters, but even if i went ga-ga over Julia personally, based on the last 6 years, of which she has been a major or leading player, i'm ready for almost anyone to have a crack at running things in a sensible, competent manner...
4. Yeah i do have a soft spot for King Julian, i think his attitude accords closely to a few people on here... :)
5. Not sure if it has a lot to do with politics, but no, i won't be platinum any time soon, but i go for quality not quantity... Unless someone else wants to pay... :)

Ooh this is a good discussion - I'd jump in myself if I weren't so good at whistling!

Julia has had Tony's measure ever since he shat himself when she told him "It's On". Julia treats Abbott, like Howard did Beasley. She knows she has him covered; that's why she is so confident and Tony walks around aimlessly.
Yes, the media stories reflect this view accurately. All these political commentators with decades of experience, they have got it SO wrong. They are going to be mightily embarrassed after the election when Julia gains a swag of Coalition seats, Rudd goes down on his knees before her and the pigs darken the skies.

I love the way the cartoonists draw her nose. The SMH must be getting desperate, they have less room to fit in the glory now.

Is there a word for women who hate men? As a female, this is one tactic Gillard uses that disgusts me whenever a male questions her decisions. Throws back to the misogynist stuff. I'm betting Gillard wishes that Julie Bishop was a man,

Isn't Perth/WA funding Australia at the moment? And if the state you live in determines your cred in this forum, well, that's just sad.

hatred of men.

Misandry is the counterpart.

Its either misandry (misandrist?? (sp)) or a ballbre@ker?? :) And when the facts are as dire as they are you have to look for some red herrings to lob out there...

And yes, WA does seem to be propping up the Oz economy just a bit of late... Not sure if it can go on forever... But till then i guess we can let the Melbournites carry on about them being the sporting capital of Australia (the world... the universe...) and the Sydney Siders carry on about being the cultural capital or whatever... Yawn... And that's with out the inhabitants of Brisbane thinking they are the new Las Vegas or whatever they carry on about... ;)

As you noted, WA is doing its bit at the moment re the economy. When the cycle turns and the revenue dries up (hopefully in a long time) then WA pollies will be the first to whinge that they aren't getting their fair share of GST revenue and demand more money.

Surely it needs to be acknowledged that the GST is essentially an equalisation fund that helps states not doing as well as others and that this is essentially cyclical. The rich state this year may be a pauper state in 10 years time and need the assistance they've begrudged the other states.

Basically, what goes around comes around.

Sadly given our current government it is SA that will be the pauper state for quite some time. Next election not until March next year. Guess which party is in control. Even the Unions hate them at the moment.

The problem is is that i tend to think WA and its potential has been ignored for a long time from over East, just a personal view, that we've never had the investment to make the most of us...

Now that some of the potential is being tapped, and the fact that every man and his dog seems to be wanting to come here and put pressure on all the infrastructure, it hardly seems fair to start taking all that money out of WA to spread it round evenly using the old calculations... The growth on the East Coast has been spread over the last 100 years (with probably a few migration spurts) but in general has had time to adjust which seems a bit different to what we are experiencing now...

I think the people of Perth would think it pretty lousy if we are struggling with all the growing pains of everyone coming here, while we are helping prop up the economy through some dark periods globally, while having to put up with negative effects of the boom (just think of all those hi-vizzers in that crowded Perth QP, everything seems crowded over here, roads, public transport etc, etc as all calculations on utilisation were based on a much slower growth rate, food prices going up, real estate going up, power, you name it) and then we have lots of money taken out of the State and so not even be able to enjoy some long lasting benefits of the boom while putting up with some of the short term cough bits of it...

Sound like you guys need a super profits tax on the mining industry.

Nah, just a decent cut of the GST to allow investment in income generating infrastructure (a port or two in the NW would win out) which in turn would provide funds to cater for the faster population growth. Besides we already levy a tax on mining in the form of a Royalty.

So.......since no state premiers are going to give up any GST revenue, then I Guess you are advocating an increase in the GST. Wow, surprising, but there u have it.
