I'm curious what other parents do. So far, we have left Little Miss's FF points in her own account to accumulate. We haven't attempted to use them for upgrades or transfer into one of her parent's accounts. I guess we've been thinking she might have a decent pile for travel later in life. If they aren't completely devalued by then. :p

So what do you do with your kid's points?

As I don't have kids I don't do anything with them, but with my wife's points as she doesn't fly very often I transfer them to my account every now and then to ensure they don't expire, it is also easier to have them all in one account.

I make sure they both have exactly the same balance. Learnt that the hard way. I also shamelessly steal their points, to make up for all the points upgrades I've got for them.

The good wife and I have differing opinions about the children's QFF points.

It is likely we will use one child's points and not the other. (Tl;dr story)

I hadn't touched them up until late last year. I did a couple of family transfers to book JASA's (kids are flying).
I don't intend on leaving points in anyone's account as QFF points behave more like a used car as an investment and less like money in the bank.

At the moment she doesn't earn any (only 16 months) but we've already got her signed up for QFF and VFF.

As it'll be a few years before travelling solo I've got her VA SC's and points pooled to me.

Quick question, once she's over 2 and travelling with us are we still able to do things such as use the priority checkin lane as she won't hold status?

Make sure you get her an EDR card to earn while shopping and to keep points alive.

Yes, of course you can use the benefits of your status while revelling with family.

We have started EDR /QFF accounts for our two grandchildren.
My focus is not actually points but status credits. If they get a decent head start on status it will make for a much easier future flying experience even if all they do is fly in whY while they are young.
Neither have many points at this stage so it hasn't been an issue. .........yet

no kids yet but I shamelessly take the points from my parents :D

I signed babygr up for an account via EDR when he was born. He now has 16K+ points but I am not sure what to do with them. I could keep going like this until he wants to travel around the world but I am then more likely to buy him a DONE4 (if they still exist) and the points would be useless. We don't have many paid flights as a family so most flights (all in fact) are awards. Given that I spent 200K on his flight to DXB in September in J - I think I am entitled to purloin the points in his account...

I believe there may be some people managing FF accounts for their pets as well as their kids ;)

My mother set up a QFF account in 2004 before flying somewhere. She had a major stroke soon after so they were the only points she ever earned. She's still alive but she definitely won't be flying anywhere ever again! I keep her account alive by having her Optus mobile account linked to it, so she earns about 59 points each month. I put the Qantas search bar on my work computer and signed in with her details. She has about 300 points or so in her account - I used a lot of her points buying cough from the Qantas shop before I realised I could have done a family transfer. I'm intending to just keep trickling them in until there's enough to transfer to me. Fairly pointless I know but at least she never had points removed or her account inactivated so I'm only really doing it so the points she had aren't lost.

lil ms vec has just ticked over the 20k mark and she's 2½. Joined her up when she was born and accrued via EDR but since she turned 2 she's started cranking up the points via BIS.
Plan is to keep hoarding for her until she is in a position to use them, unless of course QF decides to "enhance" them.

You know if you transfer 5,000 points to her then she will have enough to transfer back to yourself.

I'm very close to raiding the accounts of my kids for the second time. I wait until they reach the maximum 100,000 transfer limit.......then it's johnny light fingers.

I always leave the status credits;)

I, too, shamelessly harvest my kids points.

Afterall, if I were to leave them in the little rugrats accounts, they might fall foul of the "nil activity" rule and be wiped.

Much better they boost my balance, to get Mrs Jukebox and I our J/280K Oneworld awards sooner...

Well I just "gave"my 22 year old daughter her points, and account access for an account I started for her as a baby, as she has started full time employment and will have some workflights/hotels etc. (She has also started to acquire her own points now by CC bonii etc)

Never touched the points, but there was only 25K QFF there anyway as she has had a "lifetime"" on my mainly redeeming flights for her, rather than paying. Of the 25K, probably almost 10K was from Everyday shopping at WOW!!

When she was little, we often redeemed domestically as it was good value back then, and after she was about 9 it has been mainly redeemed international flights. She has been to over thirty countries and only the USA, NZ and Fiji were paid, apart from a Jetstar Bali launch fare that was almost free but from memory earnt about 3K QFF points. So as I mainly redeem for international holiday family flights my 3 kids do not have large point balances.

My son has just turned 2 and has had his QFF number since week 2 of his existence. His first flight in his own seat will be to Tamworth in September so he'll have 2000 pts in the bank.
