Most people flying in the months immediately after the incident would have already booked their flights in advance.

But I think the bottom line is that people will - all other things being equal, choose the cheapest fare, unless there's little difference between an airline and a competitor.
If, however, there's other factors, such as a larger, more comfortable seat, or more convenient flight times, I will always pick that, unless the fare is significantly different. I don't know though, if the average leisure traveller actually knows enough to care about the plane they are flying on.

I've just re-read this thread and find the evolution of events and our (AFF's) reaction quite interesting. Particularly months later as we now know much more about the situation and it's aftermath.
