Passing away overseas

Another vote here for being cremated overseas prior to the remains being brought back to Australia.
If feasible and husband has passed overseas and I wasn't with him I would hopefully be able to go over for the cremation.
Not bringing back a body just to be cremated here in Aust
You can always bring back the ashes as carry on ……

So im in Scotland atm, and keep seeing an advert re organ donation which is managed by the NHS. Basically here you have to explicitly Opt out of organ donation, default is every adult is automatically a donor. Seems sensible would be good to see same via medicare.
Why? I wouldn't want anyone to have any of my failing organs but it makes no sense to automatically opt-in to organs donation.

The default has to be no organ donation. Respect my wishes. If I want to donate my organs I'll go out of my way to do so not the other way around.

We all have a Use By Date. Unfortunately we don’t know that date and it can be advanced by vehicle crashes and other misadventures.

I did think this Mt Gambier misadventure was “passing away while overseas”

he was after all, 5 hours from home doing midnight gymnastics !

Disagree, default should be opt out; as people are inherently lazy many younger suitable for donation probably dont get around to it. This policy would greatly redice waiting lists for organs.

Obviously if your organs were not fit for purpose they wont be used, but younger people who maybe brain dead in a car accident can be perfect candidates. Then there is also research purposes.

My parents once took a cruise from Hong Kong back to Australia, during which several of the many elderly passengers on board passed away. Families in Australia were contacted about what to do with the deceased, and the common request was for a burial at sea. It was quick, and very inexpensive compared to the financial and extended emotional cost of bringing the body back in the freezer, and then having a funeral in Australia.

I think the other way round - an Opt out would be better.

However there are problems with an Opt Out system:
One issue is that involves implied consent rather than expressed consent. Brazil abolished Opt out organ donation because the "implied consent" created more mistrust - that Drs were prematurely ending Life so they could procure organs...

Im not sure an Opt out makes a significant difference in of itself without a lot of other measures (which can also be incorporated in an Opt in system). There are a lot more factors that influence organ donation rates rather than just an wish to be an organ donor:
1) ICU beds and health expenditure per capita and by extension GDP per capita
2) Religion/Culture
3) Head injury and Stroke rates
4)Role of family
5) National transplant coordination
6) communication between all stakeholders- transplant authorities, public, family

Agreed. I am leaving my body to science fiction !
My aunt's partner left his body to the local uni in Perth. He died only a couple of years ago - and was collected from the hospice and taken to the uni. Aunt waved him off and no memorial service or funeral. He was well in his 90s when he died. Aunt has arranged the same. They were big believers in Exit and some years ago tried to import drugs but they were confiscated before they reached them. Police called to see them and advise them that the goods were seized but no further action was taken.
She is the last of the three sisters - but was a lot younger and in her late 80s now. Lives in Perth and we want to go over at some stage to see her.
