Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

I renewed my passport on Saturday and they didnt cut my old one either, but it had expired earlier in the year

Interesting
I have all of mine dating back to when I was just a (scowling) child - which was a B and W photo together with my mother stuck on the passport.
All of mine have the cuts
Interesting how my father got a separate one (and not all three of us.)
My daughter (now 30) got her first at 18 months - renewed every five years till she turned 18.

The cut was to make the former passport inoperable, ...
But I think they had a new system somewhere/somehow to cancel passports (old ones), without cutting the bottom off.
Would have been after 2020.

Smile for the camera, stay still, hold the baby still, smile...
Then, no smile, no scowl, "neutral facial expression", then no glasses allowed, then no spectacles allowed...
Stern as she goes, stern...
My 2020 one (mug shot photo) looked like as if I was a wanted crim!

Sounds about right, mine was done via the post (easiest option doing it internationally even with a local presence) and you can continue using the old one for 30 days after the new one is issued.

I believe that Aust passports are made in Aust, HBA edit: just had a google look for update, they are in fact made in Craigieburn! if I am not mistaken, read somewhere., so not HBA.
It was when the Queens wording was still on passports, so would be prior to her passing.
When the Aust passport security settings were strenghthed.
As for how Aust passports are transferred to Aust overseas post, maybe diplomatic mail still exist.

Ah, asking about where that particular post office is.
Sorry, I now get it.

Given the extra cost to renew overseas, I think its sent by 24-karat gold plated mail couriers.

Craigjeburn is where the mint prints the filthy lucre too

I just got a SMS and an email this morning saying my passport has been dispatched via registered post, 5 days since I applied for my renewal.
Let's see how long it takes to arrive.

My passport just arrived via registered Post, 6 days from application and I didn't even request priority service, just standard.

Great turnaround and far quicker than I anticipated.

Hypothetical. You want to renew your passport and have no hair now, but you think it might grow back. Do you simply take the passport photo now sans hair, apply for the new passport and then for the next 10 yrs leave it to immigration to imagine you with hair when/if it does grow back?

Thats it Prozac.
Modernly, its not hair or facial hair anymore.
Its the bone underneath.
That is why they say, no glasses, the system needs to match the facial features between the passport photo and the person in front of the camera, or the officer, if smartgate decides it does not like the passport photo and you, ie not match fit.
As we age, we do loose hair.
Hair will never grow back, like the fat that the body puts on, fats will always increase, hair will always decrease.
In 1985, I had a full set, in 1995, I lost a bit, in 2005, lots, and by 2010, its nearly all gone.
Now my haircut is every 3 months, yep, every 3 months.
The hair is now, as the Germans say, kaput.

Welcome on board AFF Airlines Ozinozland, don't know for sure how long kids ones take to process, the DFAF passport website says it takes longer as more people are applying for passports.
Maybe if its the kid's first passport, it might take longer.
Was s/he behaving well during the Auspost mugshot taking session.
These days, no glasses, no smile, no scowl, no anything, they want a neutral sad dour face.

There is even the wording "hair off your face" meaning girls with fringe haircuts or bangs, might have to be clear forehead on their passport pix.

Thanks AP. You put my mind at ease as I was worried about leaving the photograph until the last minute and perhaps still not having any hair to boast. 🤣

Just curious, are people getting passports that reference King Charles these days?
