Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

Aye, few weeks back.

Remember Prozac, just a neutral non smiling, non growl, non emotional face.
Glasses off, so you might have to ask the Auspost staff if you can put it in your hand, or on the ledge in front of the draw down white background (out of sight) of camera.
I was told sneakily, some people have been taking their own photos to save money, ie diy, but I never asked deeply if they succeeded.
Also, spectacles off at the int arr and dep smartgates too, bah humbug, that one, but them the rules now.

It works because if there is an issue with the photo they just email and ask you to supply digitally.

No spectacles to speak of. :)

The cut was to make the former passport inoperable, ...
But I think they had a new system somewhere/somehow to cancel passports (old ones), without cutting the bottom off.
Would have been after 2020.

Smile for the camera, stay still, hold the baby still, smile...
Then, no smile, no scowl, "neutral facial expression", then no glasses allowed, then no spectacles allowed...
Stern as she goes, stern...
My 2020 one (mug shot photo) looked like as if I was a wanted crim!
I made my husband go and get another photo done. He has a moustache, and he looked like Pedro the Mexican Bandit. I read somewhere once if anyone can recognise you by your passport photo you're sicker than you thought! My tip for ladies, wear something red, full makeup and a red lippy!

Interestingly when I had my photo taken a couple of months ago I was asked to rub off some of the makeup and lippy I was wearing in an attempt to get a better photo 🤷‍♀️. So my plan was foiled 🙁

They didn't mention the moustache? ;)

Bit of facial hair is ok.
Stubble is ok too.
I am a stubbl(y) pooh.
Not like Wyatt Earp tho, maybe something like the Hibatullah A/A Khameni might not open smartgate.
Its the bones beneath, if some people have facial hair that prevents the camera system from recognizing the bones underneath in those few secs, that probably the system won't open smartgate, and the person has to go to a counter on arr/dep at immi processing.

I know this thread is focused on AU passport renewal but thought I would post recent experience of UK adult renewal from Sydney;

11 October - applied online
12 October - posted old passport to UK regular post
1 November - received new passport.

Datapoint
20 November - lodged application with suburban Brisbane PO, took photos there.
23 November - email saying passports were on their way
27 November - passports delivered to our door, R series, King Charles III

One week, very impressed with the service!

is that with normal processing or the expedited option?

I'll have to renew my passport in March/April.

Discount/(reduced rate) should also be for no passport stampings in re to Aust and many other countries too.
But it will never be, as passports are seen as a money making venture for both sides of the major parties.
