at the same time, Qantas has to be careful, that if they piss off, some lowly economy flier & they drop out of QF ff programme, the banks etc. who pay QF for ff pts, might realise that QF ff pts are not so attractive anymore to some people & the banks might stop offering ff pts with purchases for some credit cards & so Qantas will be worse off. (won't sell as many ff pts to banks)
 
QFF have made a lot more Premium awards available.Well JAL did.About the time of the QFF announcement JAL started releasing their awards at 360 days rather than 330 when they were snapped up by Aadvantage members like moi.Now Aadvantage members have to wait 30 days before they see them only to find many have been snaffled by those cheeky QFF members.There have been 2 F awards on most JAL flights that have F.Multiply by 365 and you would have about 4000 F awards that QFF members can book per year that they missed out on before.
Problem solved.Now QF don't have to release any more F awards as they have honoured the intent of their announcement. :D;)

Not ONE J flight to London in the next 12 months. Nothing.
Oh, there's the same old MU and Emirates availability here and there but they've gone UP by 20,000 points and no reduction in taxes.

Agree....I booked QR prior to the changeover and because the return was going to be beyond the availability timeframe I have to wait. Of course did a check on the new points which had gone up and WOW a big 10.00AUD lower taxes! What I want to know is, who is keeping the additional points these partner airlines now require according to QF??? Why is there such a discrepancy between different FF programs and the points required. Read a bit further down that Asian Miles 100,000pts and QFF 172,000pts for same itinerary in premium class!

Didn't we conclude ages ago the extra inventory was going to come from expanded partnerships, such as AF & KLM? 🙄

I have been looking for return Melb to Amsterdam - leave 16 Dec return 8 Jan - nothing on award flights and the price for economy saver just keeps going up!
 
Gold, Plat, P1.. hinestly "they" (any business) care about our spend not our card. Simple as that.

And it's absolutely zero surprise they want points expended on Y redemptions - reduce liability on cheap seats.. it's a win win for them and it's hardly knew.. how many promos on Y classic rewards have there been over the years? countless.

And, if you're a family wanting to take the kids someplace it can really appeal.

and as noted by many, it's not like QF did not release any more premium cabin awards - they clearly did - there is simply no argument against this because many of us saw it, many took advantage.

Remember FF seats are only going to be given on inventory they do not think they can sell for revenue - in ANY cabins. There may be some exemptons, like releases for P1/CL or something, but in general that's what it is about. It's not a God given entitlement to anyone.. they're a business and if they can sell that J seat then they'd rather make that revenue - as you would if you were in a similar poisition.

To me it doesn't mean they're pathetic if I can't see a seat for a specific route or date and time that *I* want.. it's life. It happens. There alre always(usually) alternatives.

In a perfect world we'd all get the reward seats we want with bugger all fees and everything.. thre'd also probably be no airline to provide it....
 
That's good news. Can you confirm that your changes were just changes to dates and flight numbers but do not include deleting flights and adding new route segments outside of Australia?
when I worked at QF all changes were backdated to the PNR creation date....easy to revalidate and go through the exchange process when QF flights but totally different story when partner airlines were involved....lots of issues arose on reissue as a simple revalidation could not occur...so many partner airlines flights cancelled out due to etkt not being reissued in time to their ticketing time frames! Of course things may have changed in reval/reissue processes!l
 
You need to be creative if you need Bus class to London or Europe. ie, if via spore, try to book one way to (multi city) spore and check next day or 2 from spore to london... To me this works 80% of time. Other is via Tokyo and make sure to check both Narita and Haneda since Haneda got major airlines flying in and out.. Flying Europe via JAL is always about 2K cheap for bus. class and award flights availability is good (they give overnight accommodation near Narita)and check connection flights from japan to Bangkok and London.
 
That is spectacularly unfair, Amaroo. Qantas are a reputable company and "promised" more J fares to hard-to-redeem places in return for increased points. (see post #9 in this thread). That has not happened for most of us.
I have always approached life with the motto "you get nothing for nothing" but when I was flying to London in F for the princely sum of $300, thanks to JS, I had started to believe that dreams did in fact come true. Now, I'm just a broken man, bitter and disappointed.

I'm interested in the comments re: Advantage miles (as opposed to QFF). Are they generally seen as a better option than QFF or only beneficial if you fly to/from America frequently?

Re AA - I think it depends on your goals.

AA (or AS for that matter which seems to be the current general clubhouse leader) have lower redemption fees/taxes and can be more easily bought via promotions so are a good option if seeking redemptions on partners v QFF. However if the goal is for status also, then it makes sense if one is a US centric user imo or someone who flies AA a lot (noting domestic lounge access is not granted to AA elites).

so I guess one's mileage(pun intended) varies.
 
Folks should really calm down and look at facts.

Nobody said 5M extra seats (It was 1M)

Nobody said they would all be released on 18th September.

Nobody said there would be a huge uplift in Premium seats.

The promise was 1M more seats spread out over the whole oneworld alliance over a year. For premium - up to 30% increase on an extremely low base across the entire alliance.

Lets forget the rest of oneworld for 2 seconds and merely look at Qantas.

QF makes 258,960 flights per annum and increasing as months go by. (Dom 4,300 Int 680 per week in 2018). Across the alliance you are looking at millions of flights.

Even IF the commitment was only for QF only, they need to release on average less than 4 seats per flight in any class progressively over the next 12 months. Some flights will not have any seats released for revenue purposes. The airline still has to make a profit.

If anyone thinks they can detect that level of change in seat release over the entire oneworld alliance by scanning a few per routes on specific dates and a specific class they prefer to fly then start looking for the pink elephants to fly past as well.

Thankyou, must admit (wrongly or rightly) if I can get a redemption on a partner (CX,JL,QR,SQ,EK etc) I usually choose that instead of QF..............Although as a QFNB, I seem to see available QF (J) less often.
 
So I'm a lowly bronze and I can see a whole month of availability J lax to Syd/Mel around Jume next year. Direct with QF. These weren't showing last week....or even on the 18th. I've been keeping an eye on this route for a while and never seen availability with QF like this ..

Out of interest, have you tried to book any of those seats? I've heard there has been quite a bit of phantom award availability lately.
