Pax putting phone on speaker mode throughout flight and ignoring crew requests

No need- I had 3 kids under 3.

The point is what should the other passengers do when the passenger refuses to comply with the CC requests AND the cabin crew has decided to let it slide.
(Not whether the behaviour of the passenger is good or bad).

So I ask. If you were one of the other passenger, what would you do?.
It’s up the the individual.

The only they can do is approach the offending passenger and politely ask them to stop.

Some people will feel comfortable doing that, others won’t.

Perhaps also escalate it to the cabin crew manager if it hasn’t already been done.

The Karen already "told" the Cabin crew much the same or at least similarly ignored their request.

What do you do next?
Well, talking to them yourself is the thing you haven’t tried … short of getting assaulty, what else can you do? Try to get the cabin crew to be more assertive? Other than that, “nothing”.

What is "doing the right thing".
There are a lot of things that can be done, but they all have consequences - often negative.
A lot of the solutions offered have been escalatory - almost akin to Road rage - You do something to me, Ill make you pay.
If people can't control themselves including those reacting to the issue, that is their failure and only serves to raise their own BP/HR.

It really comes down to perspective. My perspective is I would put this into the same category as an unconsolable child. There will always be inconsiderate people/screaming kids. Zen....
This is an honestly braindead take that reinforces why there is a significant increase in antisocial behaviour.

Other than that, “nothing”.
Exactly, you are not doing anything different to that of the cabin crew. There is nothing else to do -you are not the authority in the cabin of an aircraft.

Sure , but what would you do. Remember the cabin crew already tried.

Again the cabin crew already tried that

The cabin crew may have tried that, but the passenger can also try it, if they want to.

A passenger may just think the cabin crew are being over zealous, and that no one else cares.

A passenger directly approaching them might make the difference.

It has in the couple of cases I’ve had to deal with it.

From a passenger's perspective - correct.

It is in the same category as an unconsolable child.
Disagree. It's in the same category as *parents who make no effort to console/control* a child. Both the speakerphone dame and parents like these are selfish, inconsiderate and entitled.

The definition of an inconsolable child is?

Note that I said I , as a fellow passenger, would treat it as an inconsolable child and Zen out. That's different to saying the behaviour is acceptable.

But , I ask you as well what would you do given that the cabin crew already tried.

I had a passenger in 1A (was in 1C) on a VA flight last year between MEL and HBA decide that they wanted to use FaceTime (on speaker) throughout the thankfully short (to me) flight. Me and the passenger in 1D turned to each other to give a look of incredulity but the FA (CM) did well... FA. A downside to having WiFi available on flights now!

More recently the passengers in 1D, 2D and 2F on a long evening flight decided it was appropriate to have a very loud, shouty chat - the CM came around a couple of times after myself and others nearby complained to tell them to tone it down but this had no effect. It seemed she did not want to escalate as all I got was a 'sorry' on deplaning.

In short, it seems manners have gone out the window, "it's all about me", and cabin crew don't want to escalate on
Incivility and poor manners really grinds my gear

Hmmm. I have been known to accidentally drop a heavyish item next to the seat of a snorer. And on a bus the guy in front (context - he was known as a complainer from the day we boarded a cruise 10 days prior and was always complaining about something to the crew) I set an alarm that in a quiet bus except for the snoring, the alarm went off like a siren. He shot out of his seat and had no idea where he was. It was a day bus ride of two hours. We almost died trying to stop laughing so he didn't twig. No alcohol involved either.

Other than safety, the cabin crew are also paid to be nice to people, so if they weren’t going to take any further action, then it would be my turn. And I’m not being paid to be nice…

So, to start with I’d probably ask nicely.
And I’d like to think that would probably be the end of that.

Might even get a pair of headphones from the crew and make a show of giving them to the pax. A basic attempt at humour.

If no change I’d probably get my device and start playing music beside them. Followed by exaggerated display of turning the volume down and gesturing to the rest of the cabin why that’s better. Basically doing it in a way that takes the piss out of them. Most people don’t like being the centre of attention. I’d make sure this person was the centre of attention.

Might have to ask not so nicely. Unambiguously. So that even if they don’t understand English, the message is conveyed. I can be pretty persuasive.

If still no change I’d probably stand beside them and fart. Loudly. (It’s not really an on command thing though…)

At that point I’m basically done. Anything further is bordering on harassment and I’d probably have to just suck it up. Whilst still giving a fulsome dose of stink eye!

The not pc version of events would go like this: Airplane - get a hold of yourself!

I find Zen is much easier to achieve once you've shoved the offending phone up the perp's rear end.

But no, I don't need to change any of my behaviours, to zen or otherwise, because of some wanker with a loud phone.
Agreed. The crew need to have a laminated A4 page ready to drop in front of the offender which clearly states that they must refrain from the selfish/bad behaviour, or they will be arrested on arrival at the destination.
Many years ago brother was the FSD on a Virgin Atlantic flight. One of the celebrity passengers had his rotten feet wedged between the seat and bulk head in front of him. The smell was offensive to the other passenger who had to draw attention to the issue. The passenger with the offensive body odor was asked to remove his feet to which the celeb told him to F off. My bro immediately said, 'I will count to 10 and if you have not complied, the police will be waiting for you on arrival at our destination'. He got to 9 and the feet came down. I would love to tell you who it was...............

Yes
This should be added to the terms of carriage ie it is forbidden to use the loudspeaker once the cross check complete = boundary. Remedies can include x y z (a period of no fly etc). Make it part of onboard announcements — it should be explicit
There must be a commercial tipping point when the reasonable requirements of the many are not 2nd to the entitlements of the few (for fear of ‘escalation’)
Disobey = consequences x y z

Though not exactly the same as smoking onboard (which is a legal prohibition) airlines act.

In Paris saw the lovely gendarmes come on board and offer priority deplaning with a tosser who chose to smoke.
