stick to V1 boys & gals.. is the moral of the story

EDIT: just need to remember the same myself before paying :p

Ok ! Any feedback? do people get 2 or 0.5 ppd on services such as reward pay who use their amex to pay their government services?

I’ll raise this matter to Amex until they clearly state that paying through PayPal will get 0.5 or 2 pts, like CBA does on their website. We have nothing to lose here because it is now earing only 0.5 pt through pp anyway.

It will be a hard question to them.

They cannot say 0.5pt as nothing back them in current terms and conditions. To change the points earning preposition, this may not easy.

They also wouldn't admit full points should be the case.

But, just guessing, if you push hard, they should fix for you. At least for all transactions until now.

They don't need to clearly state what points through paypal because they have said it depends on the merchant - ie if it is Government body then you get 0.5PPD , if it is non government body you get 2 PPD. Paypal is not the determinant. The end merchant is the determinant.

however,

Pay bill through Paypal by using Amex card, but still only receive 0.5 rewards points

isnt the end merchant the governement if using RP to pay government bills?

or is it a different setup

then how about post bill pay?

if the end merchant is the determinant, should we get full point via post bill pay app or over the counter? most of the time, we are not paying the AusPost for a service, and it just act as an intermediary, like PayPal/banks. (guessing the end merchant is paying AusPost like they do for PayPal)

The same concept seems dose not apply here.

let's take this example:
pay utility/insurance bill via PayPal and PostPay

if according to the above discussion, all should get you half point per dollar
PayPal: end merchant is determinant?
PostPay: AusPost, the intermediary, itself is determinant?

Did I missed anything here?

Basically this is the excuse they give.

Btw, most things you pay over the counter tend to be insurance/utilities/government agencies - so still 0.5 PPD. There are some exceptions I know

Dealing with Amex service is absolutley awful these days, so don't expect much. I have a fairly minor thing going with the FOS at the moment, however Amex intentionally waits to the very last minute to respond and simply lies when they do. The days of them being a good company are well and truely over.

Regarding RewardPay, here is the claim their staff have made;

Ok so if a utility is paid on RewardPay, it will earn 0.5 points per dollar?

Except that Reward Pay is a service in itself, that you as a consumer are paying for due to perceived multiple benefits. Now we all know that the main reason people use Reward Pay is to get full points on government & utilities spend, but there are other benefits to why people use the service. The most prominent probably being that it allows you to utilise a credit card for payments and have access to interest free days on transactions where this isn't usually possible.

I call it 'lie with confidence'.

AMEX AU is expanding in the last couple of years. It seems they choose the quantity but drop the quality.

It will bite themselves eventually. Not the way to go.

Assuming you were chatting from someone from the philllipines, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

They talk the utter most garbage a lot of the time

Like the time when I was supposed to receive my sign up bonus, I had been following it up for a few months even though the t/cs said 2 months
I got in writing that bonus's are auto credited within 2 months (it was month 4) in up to 10 installments of 20k, 10k 5k, per week.

I laughed

Called up an aus rep who looked into it and said there was an error in the system and my bonus points had not been applied and he was applying them straight away.

Agree, some AU based staffs are truly a star here. Really appreciate it.
