Pay bill through Paypal by using Amex card, but still only receive 0.5 rewards points

Yep, I managed to get a adjustment as well for a bill, but I'm not going be doing that all the time chasing up all my points i pay across my work and home bills.
They didn't pay me the council rates points though.

What the T&Cs say and what actually happens are often two different things. I know Westpac pays points on government Mastercard charges except for payments to the ATO (I actually kept this card until its annual fee came up again before cancelling just to use it for government payments, but decided it wasn't worth it after that), although I know that Citibank blocks points on just about everything remotely related to government. Unsure about ANZ.

Oh no, really? Damn I have always just followed those TCs and hence ended up not using the cards that might give me points at times :(

I will take one for the team. Even though the coles mc pays me nearly 1 velocity point/ dollar, i will continue to pay my bills using amex/paypal to see if there is a certain time of day or trigger to get the 2PPD instead of 0.5PPD
Why don't you put through small amounts every week to test?

hi , this shows on my transaction statement : "PAYPAL *AP 0386778421", I only got 0.5 points for that, however, for "

PAYPAL*AP 35314369001", i got 2 points for that. Anyone knows why?? should I call Amex to find out the reason why it's different rates??
HI junjun,
Can you enlighten me as to what *AP 0386778421 is for.
i'm away at the moment and am trying to work out what this transaction was for
PM me if you want too

So my bills i paid via PAYPAY for gas and electricity came through as 2PPD last week
Exact bills a month ago was 0.5PPD, but they paid me back via online chat for those

they didn't pay me my rates though

I'm confused.
So it's gone back to 2ppd?

I disputed it for my rates as got 0.5ppd, not 2ppd with explorer. lodged an investigation over chat.
followed up over chat after 7 days. they said no can do as it was govt.
then i see they have made a manual adjustment but now as 1ppd overall, still not 2ppd lol.
so now i'm thinking dispute again or forget it, for a sake of ~1500 points

There might be merit in calling Amex when the Australian staff are available for this issue.

I raised it on chat and told them to lodge it as a complaint. Never heard anything. I had to Followup again and the chat idiots told me that the investigation said Amex were in the right, but they would never contact me and it would be up to me to contact them repeatedly for updates. I eventually pushed and the chat team fixed it, but it wasted a lot of time. The chat team is in India and they just lie through their teeth.

At least the Australian staff might be able to provide some valid guidance.

finally worked it out myself. Australia Post Bill pay.

Hi Saltywings.....well with mine was 26/7/18 full points,... 21/8/18 0.50 points...so there you have it,another devaluation. [with Plat Charge/ Reserve ]

It's been awhile since this was discussed, but I had already moved onto using Telstra's DD capability. Full points earn on the Explorer as of 22 August:

Capture.PNG

I also have a Plat Edge and once accidentally let a DD go through on that card - 0.5PPD which seems to match up with your Charge/Reserve earn.

i.e. use an Explorer :D

I have been credited 1.5ppd using PayPal to pay my car insurance with my Ultimate card.

Paid my council rates with the Explorer last week using Post Billpay via Paypal and got 2 ppd

My test payment for postbill pay council payment has paid out as 2ppd.

All these changing from 2 to 0.5 back to 2 is very stressful :)
