So turns out I logged into my account the other day and get a "Congratulations you've retained Platinum" banner. I ended the year with 900 SC but they've given it to me anyway. No contact with Qantas since the 120000 points offer. Thank god I didn't accept it! Can only assume it's because I've been 10 years Platinum. Anyway, happy days
Got new plat banner (but no card) ... then after about 4 days, the trapdoor opened. Hope its not going to happen to you, but get a cushion ready just in case ...
Thats the beauty of it (for QFA). There is no pro-rata applied, and probably a cash cow for QFA loyalty. I wonder who many are taking up the offer? It doesn’t matter if you are 10 or 1000 short. The offer of 120000 points is the same.
By no means the only system issue.Hmmm maybe they should take a look at their systems and stop the congrats messages going out.....
I had few SC's and had only done 2 qualifying QF flights when my WP came up in January.
I've been WP for 5 years before that.
I asked if they had any offer to renew WP and they said for 120k points I was good to go, which I accepted.
Next January I will have no SC's and none of the 4 qualifying flights.
What are the odds of another 120K offer to keep WP?
That suggests you've either:
a) not flown QF
b) flown only award tickets on QF or partners
c) only flown partners and credited to another program
Have you actually made use of the Plat benefits to warrant the 120k points spend?
curious.
How long ago did you actually earn enough for re-qual?My end of year is end of October. They have sent through the banner
Just surprised that it has come up three weeks prior to the end ?
I have requalified and don't have enough to make P1

I’m not spending points currently - just in case.I was around 100 status credits short for renewal of Platinum and just paid the 120,000 points. I figured I would give it a try to see if it is worth it. I have an upgrade request for LA to SYD in a few months and wanted to be at the top of the list. I also rely on the status for domestic USA American flights when I visit home on my own dollar (economy flights). I mainly rationalized it by the lesser status credits for renewal than re-qualifying. This past cycle, I didn't make the re-qual, but during my just-started new 12 month cycle, I think if I have the renew status credits requirement as the hurdle rather than the status credits hurdle imposed as a non-platinum holder, I may just make it. If I don't make it, I will go back to gold and not spend another 120,000 points next year. Looking at this year as an experiment - albeit one that cost a lot of points.
