Pay Points to Extend Qantas Status

So May 31 had 110 SCs expire and I'm now Lifetime Gold after 17 years of Platinum status.

I've just checked and do not recall any email reminding me that Platinum status was expiring and definitely no email offering status extension with points.

I don't have any plans for any major Qantas flights in near future so wouldn't have taken up offer anyway but strange that Platinum status disappeared that easily. I guess they've seen that I've not flown that often since Covid.

Haven’t called yet. My Status expiry is April not March so I figured I would give it a few weeks to see if the email comes through. I can’t imagine having much luck this far out. I will update you all in a few weeks when I call!
👌

Either it’s not a thing any more, not proactively offered or only offered if they think you’re close?

I doubt they’re concerned about too many status holders or liabilities of points balances.

I doubt they’re concerned about ... liabilities of points balances.

This is an interesting one. It is actually a huge liability for QFF. I wonder how much of an effect the Classic Plus launch has really had on reducing it. (not just what the shareholder marketing exercises say)

Has anyone had success calling up and requesting a points-paid extension? DMs welcome.

See post #180. I assume that was a recent extension and not one of the historical offers?

My status just dropped from Gold to Silver today after 6 six years. I have a US work trip booked for this Saturday and called twice to see if they could do anything and was told no. As a data point, I had accumulated 200 SCs and only taken 3 of the 4 required flights.

I tried calling twice but no luck both times. Both seemed to read from a script, as you know we did extensions bla bla bla

Well, I don't blame QF tbh. You haven't even made Silver and only 3 QF sectors. From their POV, not terribly "loyal" to them or close to the 600 required imo

Interesting data point though. Would be interesting for people who who fail to requal just call QF and ask... We would soon find out what the thresholds were

I’m sitting on 1053 SCs with a 31 Jul review date but I have about 250 SCs to land next week including about 50 direct from QF.

I been continuous WP for over 15 years and just received an email to call them about options to retain WP. No specific details but if I get the chance, I’ll call and report back.

Well if you have over 200 SCs die then you don't need the offer as you'll have gotten the 1200 no?

Yes, but they only know of 48 SCs coming from them. They don’t know I have the rest (and then some) from future QR flights.

I also have 50 SCs from GT waiting to go - plan is 01 Aug for those.

Called this morning using the “dedicated” phone provided. The recorded greeting was something like “Welcome to QF, thanks for calling regarding your tier retention invitation”. After entering my details, I think I was put through to the Philippines… The person didn’t seemed to know the details but cutting the story short, the current offer is 120k pts to extend WP for 12mths.

It was unclear and I wasn’t going to try dig deeper if that’s the amount for 150 SC shortfall, or 100 SCs shortfall (because I have QF booking) etc.

Anyway, these invite / pay with points seems to be a thing again.

But 120k gets me SYD-Asia (return) in J (and 96 SCs). So it’s a PASS.

doubt a paid extension would be offered if 1000SC were still required to requal. Would love to be wrong
Well data point on previous page was 875 short of requalification. It wouldn't be offered, but I got the impression that if you asked, and had the points, the amount of the shortfall didn't matter. Don't know one way or the other if the 4 ~ are important or not (they were achieved).

In 2019, someone was able to take advantage of the offer with only 50SC (ie 1150SC short): Pay Points to Extend Qantas Status

My guess is the primary limitation is the number of times you can take advantage of it — they probably only allow you to do it once (over a certain period of time).
