Paying $$$ to go BA F, (granted the QF SC earn is low) to try QF SYD F lounge...

Hopefully they make it a year-round thing rather than taking it away again between March and October.

I remember reading somewhere it's going to be year-round this time, hope I'm not mistaken.

Last year they had a trial until March and I believe it was successful so JAL decided to make it permanent this time.

Unfortunately it's not showing up in their system beyond March at the moment, and I'd expect it would be if they'd decided to make it permanent.

Maybe sponsor a WP on a trip somewhere strategically flying out of MEL/SYD one evening (NZ, Japan?) - two return economy fares are a lot less expensive than the BA F. (Although, you earn even less SC's.)

I got it as permanent F (no end date) but maybe it was just my wishful thinking :p

I'm still hopeful given that they'll have ANA to compete with from December. Their "usual" business product just doesn't cut it.

You try to buy an EK F from SYD/MEL to SIN or BKK, you wouldn't succeed if you try to book it online.
A call to QF telephone sales will get a seat for sure though.
Thanks, all this is just a plan right now.
Aim is EK morning SYD/MEL to NZ first.

If you are just after the F lounge experience - then it will be an expensive one. The F lounge is nice but I wouldn't pay money to go there.

I would use the money saved and go and have a proper lunch/dinner experience at one of the many top restaurants in Sydney (Quay) or Melbourne (Attica).

Even on short haul flights, you don't really make the most of the whole First class experience. To enjoy F properly, your flight needs to be at least 10 hours.

Which means you'll need to overnight outbound from Adelaide?

Seriously, Pooch, this seems like an expensive exercise for little gain (3:10 flight SYD-AKL??). How short of WP will you be this year? Might be a better investment to Status Run up to WP and then you'll also get (diminishing) WP benefits throughout your Membership year plus access to SYD/MEL FLounges whenever you're flying that LAN widebody over the ditch in Y.

Regards,

BD

Who's going to volunteer to guest Poochie into the F lounge on a JQ domestic flight then? :)

Problem is the only remaining JQdom run is SYD-MEL on a Sunday and it's a morning one (that I am aware of anyway) so again it's Breakfast. The Pooch wants the after breakfast dining menu. Although JQ were running MEL-SYD on a Wednesday afternoon but that seemed to have dried up post Aug 31. May return at some point. That was at 2 or 2:30pm which would be perfect.

I agree AP if you REALLY want the F lounge then best to join an AFFer or even sponsor one on a J run to NZ or something (the recent sales being a good example), or even redeem QF points for a F service to SIN or even DXB (if you have enough) on QF1 (and there's availability, of course).

I agree with everyone else though - this is a big investment with the goal being the F lounge. Sure, I love MEL and SYD F, but if I was paying just for that I think I'd do it ex-HKG and go to the Pier F instead :D

my 2 cents.

Poochie have you checked any of the Lounge Meeting threads?
Many WP's (myself included) travel alone and usually have a guest spot.
Strictly speaking the guest is supposed to be travelling with you on the same flight but I've had success guesting people who were on other OW flights to a different destination.

Not that I condone this, but one could, in theory, buy a fully flex F fare on, say, QF1, get into the lounge then cancel while in there.. of course getting back out through customs and all that could be a bit tricky/fun, but I suppose that would be one other way to do this.

The snap sale last week offered return to SIN on QF5 for about $550. This a late afternoon departure. Shout a WP to travel with you - $1100 later, F lounge visit sorted!

Not the SYD lounge, I know, but you could do something like this for 90,000 points + around $350 and then have lunch and dinner in the MEL lounge with a visit to the EK lounge in between:

Doesn't this rule out the BA plan anyway?
