Just rang the VA call centre to do a PE TT upgrade for a flight from PER to MEL tonight and was informed that today is the last day for PE taste tests.

Either this means that a new upgrade system is imminent OR it means they are going to have one very p'ed off FF (me) who has just booked about ten flexi fares across the month based on the idea that they were upgradable (as advertised) til the end of this month. The web site still clearly says that they are.

Heres hoping its a sign the velocity relaunch is soon.

We'll see I guess...

On the upside, the guy on the phone said it couldn't be done tonight as the flight is full, BUT I just got sent a confirmation saying I was in P/E a few minutes after the call. Lets see if they've charged me for that and if it still works at the airport! Virgin giveth, Lets hope virgin don't taketh away :)

I just called and spoke to someone about this. She said to me that today is indeed the last day, but in her reservation manual it says that they will honour it until the end of the month (because it's on the website). She said it also helps if you are Gold.

But here's the kicker - she told me a little secret about Gold members that I will have to try out tomorrow. I don't want to be coy, but I'd rather not post it here. So if you want to know PM me and I'll happily share.

Btw, it has nothing to do with Platinum but she did say that was coming very, very soon!

I was just about to start a thread on this. Got told the same thing when I booked my upgrade for tonights flight and I'm equally PO'd as I've intentionally booked Flexi's for my non-changing personal travel on Saturday and Sunday. I didn't argue at the time, however I did a search and it seems DJ have done a good job of removing any reference to it on their website, missed it on the Velocity website though! Clearly says 31st August there.

Can only hope they stick to their word. Frustrating to say the least as my e-ticket's clearly say I can book the upgrade.

As I said earlier, the lady I spoke with said they would honour the deal until the end of the month.

Now....who's going to be the first to try out the little secret?

Apparently I can only post 5 messages every 15 mins. So I'll have to wait a few more. swanning knows, he can tell you if he's feeling generous...;)

Liam, we are indeed on the same page. ETA: Have you tried it yet?

Cheers,

I haven't tried it yet, I can't try it until next weekend. I wonder if they'll still honour it then...

Checked in. Virgin taketh away :(

Was tempted to wave my P/E confirmation email around but i would be scamming and that would be probably be behaving like a tool.

Alas.

Well I guess I'll find out on Saturday if they do agree to do it or not! I'll report back.

Not off to a good start, first rude checkin girl I've had for a while and refused to let me carry my cabin
size roller bag on

I've seen a number of "suitcase sized" carry-ons removed of late. Personally, I see this as a great sign as the amount of luggage some people drag aboard was getting ridiculous and used up all the overhead bins. The downside of "carry-on" only fares I guess.

Oh really? That's good. I haven't found a problem on OOL/SYD, but that isn't a particularly busy route for business traffic. I've heard on capital runs, it can be really, really bad.

I wonder how they are enforcing it? I know my suitcase is bang on the line for the restrictions. I do hope I don't get told off for it.

I agree 100%, which is exactly why I went and found one of the (few) bags that meets the published
limits for domestic carry-on.

Sitting in the departures area now seeing plenty of economy pax with larger than cabin sized bags that will be going on! Doesn't matter too much as I don't pay for bags anyway, just a little annoying.

Congrats on the 1000th post ......

The ones I've seen removed were big cases.....removed from the plane (I'm assuming because they couldn't shove 'em in the overheads.....the bin doors are only so big.....so I guess that was the "measure" (mind you, the BSI bins don't have the doors, the whole bin drops down so I guess they'll fit in there)!

I'd like to see a reasonable degree of relaxation with it, but when required, it should be picked up at the gate before boarding.

On full flights there is, of course the weight aspect that needs to be considered as well.

Did she say why she wasn't permitting it? Size? Weight?

I remember being stopped by an immigration lady in AKL who wanted to send me back to checkin (downstairs and wrong side of a long queue) because she weighed my single carry on and it was 1kg over , which was after Virgin (or PB or whoever) had weighed it and let me through!

I told her I was allowed 2 pieces and proceeded to take my work folder out of the bag and she let me continue.........how bizzare, how bizzare
