re: cabin luggage. If it fits in sideways - with the thin side at 90 degrees to the cabin, i'm ok with it. If it needs to be turned sideways - and therefore takes up space for 1.5 to 2 bags that would fit in sideways DON'T BRING IT ON THE FRIGGEN PLANE!!
 
Originally it was 7.9KG which made it a little heavy, but my laptop was in the front so I just said I'd carry that (which made it about 6). She told me then that it was too big anyway and when I said it was domestic carry on size I just got a "I said it was too big". Wasn't in the mood for an arguement so I didn't bother, was in no rush tonight anyway.

I just called and spoke to someone about this. She said to me that today is indeed the last day, but in her reservation manual it says that they will honour it until the end of the month (because it's on the website). She said it also helps if you are Gold.

Btw, it has nothing to do with Platinum but she did say that was coming very, very soon!

No issues at all with the upgrade. Send a quick email last night to the Gold email address just asking for a clarification. Got a response at 9:30 this morning saying they would get back to me ASAP and, while I had my phone off from 10-12, I had three messages from Velocity asking me to call them as soon as I could. The lady on the message was from the overseas call centre (I'd assume, as she kept calling me Mr Daniel) however I called back and got someone in Brisbane who said they'd just openned a dedicated Gold service centre there.

Anyway very helpful and chatty lady who said there was no issue at all and even did the upgrade for me today for tomorrow nights flight.

I don't really understand the point of saying it ended on Thursday when they are still doing it... but can't argue, they did the right thing and then some.
 
As of this morning VA are still advertising the PE taste test:

Very, very, very poor form to cancel a program you have advertised as continuing to a specific date while it is running. Even poorer for to still be running the ads.

I've done this 'secret' you are all referring to many times... never had an issue
 
I utilised the Taster Upgrade for myself and my wife on two flights this weekend. Early Saturday morning, my call was taken by someone who I assume was in a domestic-based contact centre. The lady in the contact centre said advertising of the Taster Upgrade was being pulled, although customers who called up and asked for it (ie they had prior knowledge of the taster promotion) would still receive it through until 31 August.

When I called up to upgrade for our return flight, I tried to make smalltalk with the consultant (whom I think was in the Manila call centre, judging by the accent) about advertising of the taster promotion being pulled, but she was very 'procedural' and unwilling to talk outside the script.

FWIW, we are only Velocity Red and had no problems securing the taster, although we were advised in the BNE lounge yesterday afternoon that they were moving us up to Row 1 so that the rest of PE could be filled with Velocity Gold members because the flight was full.

Service between the two flights differed fairly significantly. This was my first DJ flight since the rebrand and my first in PE. The SYD-BNE leg didn't 'feel' any different from regular economy service beyond not being asked for a credit card for meal service (and the newspapers piled on the middle seat, which were great!). But on the return from BNE-SYD yesterday afternoon the FAs addressed us by name and left us feeling a bit more 'appreciated'.

Have VA actually cancelled it? It seems to me that, as Fruitcake has said, VA have removed some content promoting the offer (leaving the Velocity webpage active). From memory when the VA website changed the new PE page didn't mention the upgrade promo, and that was months ago.

If you can still call and book an upgrade, sounds like the offer is still available, albeit quietly...

Well, providing they are still honouring it, i don't have any complaint. I'll see how it works in practice when i try to upgrade my stupid O'clock MEL-DRW flight next week.
