 You've lost me, mate (get used to it :p.)

Oh, hell, I'm going to be locked up for a couple of weeks with a philistine.

Traditional crying-out after a play to denote that the audience thought the play (or trip report) was very well written (presented). :)

I've been known to express the same after a good bottle of red.

Thanks for the trip report with some stunning photos.

Taking an Antarctica flight is on my bucket list, is it worth the extra money to fly in ice class.

Must be good to have a friend travel with you, so many of the flights I take are alone, the best ones can be when another is traveling with us even if they are AFF members.:p:)

Works out very expensive to fly with partner

Ice is definitely an indulgence, Bundy but as I mentioned upthread, given a clear day there is so much time over the ice and freedom to move about that Business Centre I think could be a very good compromise.

I was going to be doing it alone but I happened to mention it to a friend and he was keen enough to contact Antarctic Flights and became I think number 2 on the Ice wait-list. Just after final payment day came in December, he was contacted to say a seat was available.

Nice stuff JohnM. I don't imagine you saw me wave at you when you flew over my house on Thursday morning. But oh well.

I believe this flight had a whole classroom's worth of Perth students on board?

Hope they behaved themselves.

Good stuff! It's something that they are sure to remember forever. I didn't notice the group. Certainly up the front behaviour of everyone was impeccable.

I think, as scientists, they could have chosen a more accurate headline - we were still a long way from the South Pole!

With the 4 hours of "contact time", did it become monotonous seeing the same thing over and over?

Thanks for the report. Pure bucket list stuff for me. :)

It probably had the potential to be like that for some people - but there was a lot of landscape variation if you looked for it. As you might expect, there was a lot of enthusiastic viewing initially - especially as we made landfall at Casey and circled there for a while. The frenzy then subsided. Most people then just periodically moved about, sat down with a drink, talked with others about it - just generally took it at a slower pace once it became clear that there was no need to rush.

This is one reason why I suggest that Business Centre might offer good bangs for the buck - enough room to move about quite freely without the premium price of window seat pairs.

One of the great things was the smoothness of the flight which meant that standing up and moving about at any time was so easy. How typical that is, I don't know. Reflecting on it, I would say it was the smoothest 12h-plus flight I have ever experienced. I kid you not when I say there were no bumps at all.

I really can't comment on what it was like in PE or Y as we were told to stay in our designated cabins. Maybe PE would be a good balanced option.

A fantastic colletion of photos. Thanks for sharing!

Fabulous photos. I looked at them a couple of times.

Thanks

Wonderful stuff. Despite the initial envy factor, it is great of you to share.

Now added to my list too.

Good photos JohnM, so much so that I bought your camera, well you know, not YOUR camera but the Sony 30x same model. I think it will be better than the manual Sony I have for our next trip ;) which starts in 20 days time - I had better start reading the instruction manual !!

My Mum was on the same flight as you and it exceeded her already high expectations. She had a window seat in Y and half way through swapped with a seat mate (as required). The new occupant of the window seat then promptly fell asleep !

Forgive for what may seem to be a dumb question, but given that the flight was Perth - Perth with no stops in between, did you need a passport?
