PER-MEL via Adelaide - Does that count as four sectors?

Could someone confirm if I do a flight (Business Class) PER-MEL via Adelaide that that counts as four sectors?

Also as another query, are there ANY business savers seats availed for upgardes anymore or am I wasting my time trying to keep my Platinum. Every effort I have tried to get a business upgrade has been refused in all my flights during 2022 despite business seats being shown availed. Albeit they never seem to be savers (all to or from PER).

Thanks in advance.

100% for an extra sector if you break it up like this.
Each individual flight is one sector.
Regarding upgrades, I assume you are referring to Flex fares to business which Plat gets 4 of, or UpgradeMe Bid/Points?

YES ... Yet two years of trying and NOT once have I gotten one. As mentioned mainly PER to or from and mainly to MEL.

I see.
I don't get Flex too often, so I can't really comment on that side of things, sorry. I've used points at the airport to upgrade quite often though, successfully.
Just keep in mind the other benefits of Plat, such as FlyAhead even on Choice, extra points, Exon X for you and up.to 3 etc ;)

Why is this question in the promo codes thread?

Anyway, as you point out there needs to be an award saver J class seat available first in order to get the Platinum upgrade from Y.

Ive been looking for these availabilities over the next 2 months and they seem to be rare as hens teeth. Perhaps you have a better chance if you are willing to book further in advance

Booking well in advance is availed those that have the ability to do so. Apologies for posting in the wrong thread..

PER - ADL tends to be operated by A320's / ex KLM B737-700's which have no business class. You can get a B737-800 with business class here or there.
Unfortunately PER - ADL did tend to have a lot of cancellations / delays ... Maybe one to look into.

From what I can see the only day I can confirm business both legs is a Wednesday. It’s significantly cheaper than PER-MEL direct by nigh on $1000 pp return.

PER-BNE-MEL is simply time stupid and PER-SYD-MEL is more expensive again.

I had asked previously considering my issues getting Plat x 4 free business upgrades is it worth trying to keep my plat status? Being PER based it’s almost impossible to get them. Even if I do the above PER-ADE-MEL return I’m still going to have to complete another PER-Anywhere return to get my 8 sectors for the year to keep Platinum.

Your biggest issue is the lack of seats (only 8 J seats on a 737) and the high propensity that corporates with paid full fare J are already in the seats. I’ve similarly had a number knocked back.

I’ve similarly got a BNE/MEL/PER/SYD/BNE (sadly in Choice) coming up at the end of the month and can’t use my 4xJ upgrades because not Flex.

However they are able to be used at the Virgin Lounge within 2 hours of flight (On Departure Upgrade), if there is availability. I always ask them to hold my BP and check, as most J pax haven’t checked in that early and often change at last moment. That’s your best bet for use (because Flex fares are probably too expensive for both of us)

PER - ADL if you get the 320, no J cabin.
Watch for that.
Edit:
From what I can see, a lot of flights from PER - ADL is the 320, not sure how much you are paying for J when there is no J service.
If you are paying $881 for PER - ADL - MEL, and the first sector is a 320, you are being toyed with.
Even if they sit you in Row1 on the 320 or over the wing, you will still get someone next to you, and it will still be a row of 3 across.

Yes upon further investigation the only day a PER-ADL-MEL includes J all legs both directions is on Wednesday during the period I need.

Ah, right, ok.
Not knowing which Wed you meant, I checked all their schedules, and its 99.9% that its the 320 that flies the route in "question".
Best of luck they don't swap you from that 737 to a 737-7/320.
I live in ADL, so its a disincentive to fly VAd on route when I want to go to PER again.
In my case, have to buy a comfort seat booking, which I had done once when VA put their F100/and 320 onto the ADL - PER route and vv.

I wasn’t aware you could apply a Plat upgrade on a Choice fare ( if available) at the Lounge. Is this a VA WP unpublished benefit? How long has this little gem been going around?

You can't from Choice only if Flexi.

Though you can obviously do a points upgrade if available last minute.

Agreed. Recently tried my luck at the lounge for OOL-MEL on a Choice fare with 3 x vacant J seats, but only offered a points upgrade

Thanks for the info. I am often FLEX as I run my own business and sadly seem to get issues before "footy weekends" with MEL mates.

The only reason I am in this position was the draconian WA COVID locked state situation.

A couple of times it has been on the PER-SYD route ... even when I have been in the lounge never got an upgrade and one time walked onto the plane and saw two empty business seats. Wasn't happy to say the least.

How much is a points upgrade roughly?
