Personal Welcome from Qantas Customer Service Manager

Best welcome I have had from the CSM was at Singapore Airport in July when the CSM came into the First Class lounge and introduced himself to all of the passengers on his Sydney bound flight, QF32 (and politely wished those on the earlier Perth flight a pleasant trip) which was probably around 15 passengers in total. He also recognised us again as we boarded and again wished us a pleasant flight.

I thought it must have been the new First Class standard given the upscaling of Sydney's First Class lounge, but alas, it didn't happen again on the August trip.

If I had of thought quick enough I could have asked for a few 'extras', but was too stunned that he actually did the walk around, but I will be prepared for this months flight with a 'wish list'. I'm sure they have some extra 18yo Chivas in the bottom drawer :D

IMO, shows great initiative from the CSM, great customer service and would impress me. Certainly would be a cut above the rest if they did it on a regular basis for homeward bound flights.... combined with that feeling.... stepping onto QF metal abroad on your way home!

At the end of our honeymoon, some 10 years ago, the CSM came to see us on our CNS-DRW-SIN flight and asked us if we'd like to sit on the flight deck for the landing into DRW. Even sat there for the take off. Those were the days!

Did LHR-BKK-SYD-AKL-WEL and WEL-SYD-SIN-LHR recently, and did not get any greetings, or requests..

Hmmm... not good ..

/Jorgen

On my recent RTW trip was greeted twice (total 3 QF flights during trip, should have been 4 if I count been on the tarmac in SYD for 3 hours as a flight) by the CSM.

On the SYD-LAX flight I was given the NC headphones as part of the greeting. When asked if I had wanted anything during the flight not to hesitate to ask and I mentioned that I would like to have a drink during the flight not offered in WHY. No problems.

On the LHR-HKG flight I was greeted with a printed copy of the Sydney Morning Herald followed by a short chit chat. A few minutes later she returned with a J amenity kit without asking for one.

On the doomed SYD-MEL flight, sitting on the tarmac for 3 hours, I was chatting to the FAs and asked for a glass of champagne and was able to refill my glass several times until I was escorted off the flight.

Hmm - on the SYD-NRT flight the CSM was giving out the immigration cards to everyone and I got a "Hope you enjoy your flight" - no particularly personal greeting. Also no greeting on CX flight for the first time :(

When I think back to my recent experinces as a WP, I believe that I have only received a welcome from the CSM when travelling in Y. Certainly my more recent points UG Y to J I have not received a welcome, but seem to get more attention as a WP in with the rest of the herd.

Let's see what happens this Wednesday.

If it happens; on my last three Long Haul Qantas flights in J, there was no such introduction.

Ditto. Always get it with BA, CX and JL though.

Add me to that list as well.

Well I am happy to report that I received a personal welcome from the Y cabin manager on QF107 yesterday.

He greeted me with "Good morning...blah blah...you do a lot of flying with us...blah blah....obviously I can't get you a seat up front but can I get you anything else.....blah blah...newspaper / glass of wine / champagne before takeoff...blah blah"

I requested the champagne and newspaper and a pair of noise cancelling headphones, all of which were provided without fuss. I also received several refills prior to take-off and noticed that the cabin manager took another 4 or so pairs of NC headphones to other Y passengers - presumably WP's.

I didn't want to push it with a J meal, but was pleased with this additional service from QF.

I'm still waiting for a CSM introduction on an international flight. I've had a smattering on domestic flights, but that's usually after some lengthy delay!

I thought the introduction from the CSM was only for WP travelling in economy.

I remember it was announced at the same time they introducted hot chocolate on the long haul flights, and the new aprons that the attendants would be wearing. Anyone remember when that was (early 2006 or similar)?

These welcomes have been going on for quite some time, my first experience was in the Mid 90's.

I always enjoy my little tete-a-tete with the CSM - it usually goes something like this :-

"Excuse me sir, can I see your boarding pass?" ...... "Ah, yes - I believe I said to cross over and turn right." .... "No - I meant your right, not mine" ...... "I think sir is not in 4J, sir has just scratched out the '50', so if sir could please follow me."

I never thought to ask for noise-cancelling earphones, must remember that for next time!

Cheers,

Andrew

Sure. But in that announcement last year (or the year before), it was specifically mentioned in the changes to international economy that there would be new aprons, hot chocolate, a range of organic teas now available, and that WPs would be individually welcomed onboard by the CSM.

I had to do two flights to Seattle in the two months after that date, and thoroughly enjoyed the Cadbury hot chocolates that they were serving just before "lights out"

This may have indeed been short lived.....

In the last week flying Y - QF29 and QF128 no personal greeting at all.

Interestingly was greeted on both CX flights - HKG-PVG and PVG-HKG.

Yep, I have travelled BA, QF, JAA and CX at least three times on each in the last month, and QF was the only one to drop the ball..

Back in Sep when I did SYD-KUL on JQ in super-y, I noticed the pair infront of me were welcomed as WP. A few minutes later the CSM took them up to Starclass.
