There is a difference in how you ask someone for something extra and if you do it in a nice way and not a rude or arrogant way it works.
I have no problem with that at all.
For example, on a recent SYD-LAX flight in Y where I tried 3 sets of headphones (all broken), I found a staffmember and asked if I could have a pair of NC headphones (if they had any left). 10 minutes later he kindly brought a pair around.

My only beef was with flagging down a staffmember for the express purpose of showing them your boarding pass. Just screams of "look at me". If you want to flag them down to request something, go for it...but I think you can leave out the boarding pass part. :)

I'll remember that when I'm asleep with my Y class headphones, nice eye shades and nice and warm with the Y class blanket on me.. cheers

I think you mean J. :)

Cheers,

You enjoy sitting in your 32" pitch seat with your J accoutrements. I will have turned right after entering the aircraft, and won't have to witness any of your embarrassing behaviour.

sure I will be in economy with you pal no worries....what's embarrassing about asking for some nice things when they come and ask or forget to ask and you ask for it when you have spent over a few 000K with and airline over 8 years... get real man..

I turn right to head for WHY almost everytime I enter an aircraft!

You will really be embarrassed looking for your First class seat in the WHY cabin....

Re: Turn Left

I have not had the pleasure of ever walking on board and being advised to turn left and sit in a nice seat.

The closest I have got, was departing on a 2 class 747, where they were using two aerobridges for boarding. Using the stampede lane, connected me to door 2L, where the FA smiled and said to your left Petch… and off I went to find my seat in the mini-economy cabin just behind business class. It was also fun to watch many of the people from the privileged lane, who had boarded through door 1L, now walk back past me to the end of the plane. ROFL

I have to admit, that with the likely end of “turn left” (given new planes are being designed with exits both forward and aft in all cabins), I have finally got my act into gear and upgraded on a 743 Perth flight next month, so I can do it for real, for once!

Whilst the majority of my flying generally commences with the words "on your right", "across and right", and "right down here", I do love it when (and rarely) it is "turn right and UP THE STAIRS"

Oops - my bad - that's jetlag for you!

Nothing from Qantas yesterday on QF187. A blow to my self importance... ;)

Surprisingly on my KA flight, not only did the CSM give me a personal greeting, but all flight staff personally addressed me as I was being served.

I guess it is quite a bit easier to do when there are only 16 pax on a A320 and only 1 other has any (OW) elite status

Resurrecting this old thread...

Fly QF73 to SFO a week ago. Brett, the economy cabin supervisor, was happy to get me an amenity kit even though I just wanted a toothbrush and some real toothpaste :-). He also got me a couple of glasses of red from the pointy end of the plane to go with dinner (unprompted).

Fly QF12 back, and the experience was the complete opposite. Got a pretty ordinary seat allocation, and nothing. At least I managed to sleep most of the way.

Doing the trip again this week, so I'll see what happens.

Sent some feedback in to QANTAS re the flight out. Hopefully the encourage more behaviour like Brett's :-)

When I flew QF47 SYD-WLG last month, I saw the CSM walk back to whY with a glass of champagne and J headsets. I assumed it was part of a meet and greet for a WP in whY.

CSM greetings:0 from 8 flights on QF international flying in Y.

Why am I not surprised...... simply because it's QF and that basically sums up the whole airline's don't give a stuff attitude - inconsistent customer service.

Solution: Send them all to smiling school....

Joined in 1993... why?

I joined in 1995, but was NB all the time until I jumped PS,SG amd WP all with in 2 weeks in Jul06. So I am new to WP. But talking with friends I always seem to get better treatment than a friend of mine who joined in 2003, but was WP from 2 months after joining and has stayed there. We are both Middle alphabet surnames. So we just thought they but more weight on how long you have been a member.

No science to this thought. Just drunken ramblings over saki after skiing in January:rolleyes:

Bit of thread-digging here, but:

5/6 flights between SYD and AKL - personal greeting and the usual thanks etc... Specifically handed Express immigration forms on all SYD flights too (building up quite a collection!)

SYD-LAX recently - no greeting. We'll see how I go on LAX-SYD on Thurs..

CX BOM-DXB in August - got a CSM-equivalent greeting. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

The greeting rates have been increasing for me lately, and happens more often when I fly whY (not sure why...).

I even got it a recent BA flight while sitting in whY (which was a major surprise).

My 12 yo was very happy when a CSM came up to him on syd-hkg (all y redemptions) and said " as a WP i'd like to welcome you on board!"

His sister didn't hear the end of it!

He refuses to believe that the greeting was maeant to be for me

QF have been very hit and miss for me this year. Most flights I do not receive a welcome and have to ask for the express immigration cards. KA on the other hand have greeted me on every flight.

We'll see how I go on LAX-SYD on Thurs..

No greeting, however
- Handed an express card within 30 seconds of asking for one (and I later spotted the CSM handing them out to other Plats)
- Given a set of J headphones without asking
- Given a (LARGE!) glass of Noble One 30 seconds after asking for it, at the very start of meal service too (so presumably First hadn't finished with it yet)

I was impressed. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.
