For example, on a recent SYD-LAX flight in Y where I tried 3 sets of headphones (all broken), I found a staffmember and asked if I could have a pair of NC headphones (if they had any left). 10 minutes later he kindly brought a pair around.
My only beef was with flagging down a staffmember for the express purpose of showing them your boarding pass. Just screams of "look at me". If you want to flag them down to request something, go for it...but I think you can leave out the boarding pass part.
