Anything new or interesting opened recently in Perth or freo? Restaurants or cafes... ? Have to show some Melbournites around and they have very high standards as all Melbourne residents do...

(Not after tourist traps or anything Crown related)

Madalenas in South Freo is excellent. A bit more bar than restaurant but great seafood and a fantastic wine list. Also has been nominated in Gourmet Traveller as one of the top new restaurants in Australia. You can’t book so get there early to secure a table.

Been around a few years now but Lulu La Delizia in Subi never disappoints.

My suggestions are not new but they have stood the test of time better than most IMO.

Could add Petition Kitchen and Post at the State Building, corner Barrack St and St George’s Tce.

I don't get Petition Kitchen even though everyone raves about it. I've been a couple of times. Nothing wrong with it, but never stood out for me. While in the same area Wildflower is currently king of fine dining in Perth IMHO. Does a brilliant job of show casing local/native ingredients.

For something very casual, across the road from Petition is http://www.alfredspizzeria.com.au/ Great pizza and beer selection. Good coughtails too. Super casual.

"Wines of While" on William St Northbridge might work for you. Interesting wines and yummy rustic food.

We have got 3 days in Perth in August 2020 - so I will pop back here before that to get some updated recommendations.
Ron will have to take me out for a birthday dinner whilst we are there so looking for something good !

Bib and Tucker at Leighton Beach , Cocos overlooking PERTH from South PERTH , Garum at the newish Westin Hotel are all worthy of consideration. Haven’t been disappointed with Matilda Bay and Frasers in Kings Park is good too.

I agree, but the chef from Wildflower has recently been lured to Hearth (Hearth Restaurant & Lounge Perth) at the newly-opened Ritz-Carlton at Elizabeth Quay. The reviews are yet to flow, but it could be worth keeping your eye on.

I concur. Having said that I've been to wildflower since and it's still kicking goals.

Thanks all for the very helpful responses. Ozduck you have gone way beyond what I could have wished for - may thanks. I've started to make a few bookings - Gazette and Post so far. Wildflower looks very heavily booked at times that suit. I'll keep working on it and do a mini restaurant report when I get home. Going to the Pompeii Exhibition at the Maritime Museum in Fremantle tomorrow. Cheers.

.. the new kids on the block are at opposite ends of South Terrace.

Next to the Freo Markets is The Old Synagogue..just opened and always pumping when I have walked past. Several areas to eat and drink within the heritage listed building - Mrs Chapples, Tonic & Ginger and L’Chaim.

Plenty of free parking out near South Beach at the other end of South Terrace at Madalena’s Bar ..they specialise in fish for dinner.
