Perth Qantas lounge

I think some people's perspective on "Hi Vizer's" is a little bit skewed….

The majority of rank & file mine site employees are in civilian clothes for mobilisation & de mobilisation to site. The ones you see in Hi Viz are actually more likely to be the "Business Man" doing a daily site visit. The type of individual who would normally wear a suit. Engineers, Geologists, Architects, Planners…. and the list goes on.

There will always be rank & file employees in dirty Hi Viz in the lounge, they are in the minority.

Makes you wonder about the type of people that you do not want in the lounge…

I sit in the Perth QC with my staff (that includes 3 with doctorates) in hi-viz sometimes to visit clients for the day or overnight and we would normally wear suits. So do not always judge a book by its fluoro cover. ;)

I quite agree with the aforementioned comments about the low quality of the catering options. On more than one occasion at breakfast time I've been torn between not eating, going downstairs to the cafe in the main terminal area or eating yoghurt from the lounge which is about as palatable as a tub of petroleum jelly. I'd also agree that the lounge itself isn't quite up to standard, but judging from comments made on this thread its clearly not something that is going to change quickly.

As an aside, I've often seen people wandering around in the QP wearing fluoro hi-viz vests and wondered why they were wearing them. Wouldn't you take them off and shove them in your carry-on? Well, I would do that.

I don't mind the Hi-Viz workwear. Work uniforms are work uniforms.
What can you do? If your going for a day trip, expected to carry a change of clothes just for the outbound?
At least most people are flying up to work and the hi-viz stuff is 'usually' clean.

I cringe more when I see thongs, board-shorts, singlet, tattoos all over and those stupid caps (or whatever those hats with the gold/silver stickers are) atire.

But hey, that thread has been done to death. ;)

I generally don't use the QP in the afternoon so can't comment.

However in the morning the offering mirrors what I've encountered in other QPs (non-J lounge). I can get a fruit salad, Bircher Muesli, the much fabled pancakes (medium sized for now!) and the lovely Jaimee always makes a decent Latte.

Even at the 5am peak hour you can generally find a seat. Ask one of the tattooed guys, they generally are happy to share their table.

or by their doctorates either ...

Hi-Viz is keeping QF running so don't ever knock anyone who is working.
Because it is so crowded I am often chatting with a hi-viz flyer in Perth QC.

Ahhh, good old NewEra caps. The good lord himself knows why these people spend $70 on them...
The AFL recently signed a contract with NewEra so expect to see more of those things around the place....

Re: Perth QP...admittedly only been in a couple of times however it's been quiet and pleasant every time (incl peak times). Must just be lucky :)

NewEra were cool about 3 years ago... So they have now cascaded down to the bogans and footballers I guess ;)

What are you suggesting? That this look isn't a good one?

Hi-viz is cool

To be fair, many people working in the mines, irrespective of where they work in the pecking order, are WPs. So you would still see them in a J lounge. That said, it is unfair to broad-brush them as the types that make the lounge loud or raucous.

IME, a lot are only SG. I've seen a slew of SG 'coasters' on bags there, and the matching 'FF GOLD' on the BP's.

Of course we'll never know exactly how many are/aren't, but a separate J lounge would IMHO make a difference (not that it's going to happen in it's current terminal).

Perhaps the people wearing "vests" were airport/QF employees. FIFO types do not wear the vests as they're considered a hazard on sites. The FIFO types wear the long sleeve shirts with reflective tape on them, well those in work dress anyway.

I can put up with anyone being in the lounge (wearing whatever they like) but the capacity issue is frustrating and takes away what should be a benefit (access to a seat in a pleasant lounge) regardless of the city you are in.

There again this week. A debacle. QF lady was telling me that mid week is worst owing to mine shift switch or some such. At least I got a desk to do some work.

I didn't know that swings are usually changed mid-week. But whatever.

I guess it's easier to get flights then, rather than having to compound the usual Friday to Monday rush days with the other business workers.

Anat0l, my swings were always starting/stopping on a Tue/Wed/Thu. Never had Mon, Fri or Sat/Sun. Having said that, it's an ever changing environment and the length of rosters were also changing to become more 'family friendly', ie, shorter periods away from home.

Was in the Perth Lounge last Monday afternoon, wasn't crowded, enjoyed the Little Creatures Pale Ale on tap.

Responsible serving of alcohol was being enforced on one bloke who asked for a Gin & Tonic and then a shot of Gin also.
Lady serving asked him what flight he was on and he was advised that this was his last drink.
