mrs.dr.ron, not sure I would be visiting if you have experienced altitude sickness before but MP is the lowest of the three:
Cusco 3339m, Quito 2850m and MP 2430m
Colorado has the Rockys.
Have you been to the top of Kosciusko? It's 2228m not a great deal lower than MP.

I went to Kosciusko when I was about 7 or 8, we drove to the top ! it was summer, I have B&W photos - there was some snow - it looks like sand in the photos ! my father had problems with the attitude so we didn't stay long - just long enough to take some photos with the box brownie and throw some snow ! ( My father died a few years after this at age 46 )

Sounds like any altitude is not good for your health, mrs.dr.ron. Maybe you could send the good man on his own while you wait somewhere more conducive to your well being (possibly close to a shopping mall).

But in Quito it was going up on Telerifico-top station is 3945 metres.
in Colorado it was Independence pass at 3687 metres.
Interesting in Colorado our rental car was also a victim getting a big balloon on one tyre wall.Ended up swapping rentals at the next Avis office.

MP will be a walk in the park compared to those numbers. Just make sure you leave Cusco on arrival and spend a few days in the spa/bar in the Sacred Valley ;)

Fantastic! Can't wait for the TR..

We now have an agenda for our BKK outing. You can hear all about MP, and we can learn about Africa - perfect.

BTW - what does 02 available mean?

Don't forget to book early for the climb of Huayna Picchu - it's popular ;):p.

Don't worry. After seeing your pictures Huayna Picchu is not on my list.

And it sure wasn't on ours! I was so exhausted by the time I walked through the Sun Gate three weeks ago I would have paid anything to get carried down to Machu Picchu. Huayna Picchu just looked like too much hard work!

Trip report to come.

Amaroo,

Your TR was excellent thanks for that. I am looking at something similar with Belmond. Did you book your tour with them or did you do some yourself as I am looking at the Umissable Tour with Belmond but its different to yours
Also having a lot of difficulty getting SYD/BNE - SCL to start the trip

We booked independently. I know it appears it could be a Belmond tour however, this is only because I had to do a deal with them to release two nights at MP ... i.e. let me have two nights at MP and I'll spend another 5 nights at your SV and Cusco properties.

Their tours didn't appeal as we wanted to spend a certain amount of nights at each destination.

It's a wonderful trip - I'm sure you'll love it!
