amazing pics Amaroo.

We wanted to do Huayna, but as we were there only for the day, and the later climb was booked out. Couldn't do the early one as the train didn't arrive till to late.

But, MP was an amazing place and it looks like you had wonderful weather. Luckily we did as well, it was a spectacularly gorgeous day.

Those are amazing pics! I did not even contemplate the climb and one of your last pics reinforced my decision!

that view is spectacular but my goodness - think i'm acrophobia would be screaming at me - was it scarier coming down?

was the belmond worth it? did you get a few hours in the morning prior to the trains and hikers arriving?

My Wayna Picchu tips...

Don't watch the countless youtube videos telling you how hard it is, and that you'll most likely die.

Book the early (7am) group.

Once started - keep moving

Keep baggage to a minimum - large backpacks, tripods, the kitchen sink are not really that important.

Take 2 litres of water per person

Enjoy the moment up-top... but time your descent so that you don't get caught sharing the stairs/path with the 10am group on their way up.

It's easier than what it looks!

Back yourself and climb!!!!

Well done, Amaroo! How long did it take you?

2 hours all up.

Up - 50mins
Enjoying the moment - 30mins
Down - 40mins

that view is spectacular but my goodness - think i'm acrophobia would be screaming at me - was it scarier coming down?

Belmond was perfect... more to come in the TR.

No extra time other than sleeping in and having a decent breakfast. The buses start arriving at 5.30am - climbers can get there even earlier.

When the last bus departs - total bliss

It seems the track was dry when you climbed. ..when we did the climb up Huayna Picchu in 2012, it had rained the whole night prior, and the track was very slippery...was really dangerous at parts...

Feeling energetic after the climb we decided to checkout the Inca Bridge.

LOL the trek starts from up the there

You used to be able to walk across the Inca bridge, until some-one (inevitably) fell and died. Some things are even too much for Peruvian OH&S!

According to apple iPhone this is what it takes to tackle Wayna Pucchi and Inca Bridge on the same morning .... we started at 7am and returned to Belmond by 11.30am.

Well amaroo your pictures have convinced me that even if I can get mrsdrron to MP I will not be doing the climb. My activity for the morning would be that of Post 113!

Thoroughly enjoying your trip report so far. Looks like you're having a great trip. :)

I'm returning to Peru in 2 months... getting very excited now!

After enjoying a very relaxing "Inca" massage, and feeling a little peckish from our morning climb/walk - it was time for lunch.

The rest of the day we recuperated and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of Sanctuary Lodge.

Before long - it was time for dinner.

Wow! How many were you eating for? ;) Looks fabulous!

Quick question Amaroo, is the MP sight open at night for Sanctuary Lodge guests? Or is it all closed up?

Probably closed, I was thinking it would be quite spectacular at night with the stars out.
