Peruvian Celebrations!

Sorry if this question is a bit random, but how did you find the jetlag heading over to Peru? I'm doing an identical routing (BNE-SYD-SCL-LIM) and am wondering how long I should allow in Lima to recover at the end of the outbound leg.

Wow! How many were you eating for? ;) Looks fabulous!

Quick question Amaroo, is the MP sight open at night for Sanctuary Lodge guests? Or is it all closed up?

Probably closed, I was thinking it would be quite spectacular at night with the stars out.

The F&B offer is excellent! We enjoyed all the meals ... particularly, the beverages

No access at night - the stars were ever present from the grounds around the hotel.

We didn't suffer any jetlag however, I think the SCL stopover was a real blessing. The flight to LIM is four hours ... I wouldn't want to do the lot in one go, and then head off in the morning. I'd allow yourself at least a day/night before pushing on.

Day 3 Machu Picchu

Another excellent (easy) walk that offers wonderful views.

TBH we felt completely out of place at the top. All the Inca Trekkers were gathering after completing their journey and the place was full of positive energy however, having not joined in the 4 day trek we felt out of place and quickly hot footed back down to the citadel.

I'd agree with this. The SCL-LIM fight on LAN isn't bad, but pretty miserable if you are tired. There's an excellent Holiday inn at the airport (one of those literally walk-across-the-street-types) or a fixed price 'official taxi' (buy your ticket in baggage collection area) is a stress free way to get into town.

Downside is that you'll have to pay the US$117 reciprocity fee to enter Chile, but its good for a return entry within 90 days (IIRC) if you were going to stop-over on the way back.

Remember that some of them would have been the one-day trek jobs, only marginally more than your climb up HP, so you weren't that out of place :)

After walking back from the Sun Gate we had one last look around the citadel - what an amazing place!

It was time to leave MP and enjoy the last few hours of the lodge - massage, lunch, drinks

The "Inca" massage was same as posted upthread - outdoors and beautiful!

Belmond Sanctuary Lodge was perfect!

Stay here and book for two nights - you won't regret it.

Cake for the birthday girl ... came with 4 piece band, crew and other passengers singing the song.

Feeling quite full we had a slice each to be polite. I then suggested we share it with the other passengers, but quickly changed that to the crew - you should have seen the smile on their faces.

Thoughts on the HB service...

Perfect if you're looking for a full on experience - very stylish

The trip to MP is the better option if you're only interested in a one way trip. Very scenic morning trip.

The journey to MP is the clear winner - IMO

Fantastic pics!

We did not experience jet lag either - I did SYD - SCL - GYE. Trip of about 24 hours all up with about 4 hours in SCL. Friend started in BNE - SYD. We landed around 9pm so after food and a good sleep, felt rested and ready to go.

Fantastic pics!....

I agree! Amaroo, truly thanks for this TR - taking the time to share this stuff is amazing!

I just hope my wife never starts reading AFF - at the moment I keep her happy with a visit to the SYD QF flounge once every couple of years. If she saw these food photos the pressure on me would be intense!!

If the kids start reading, then you'd really cave in ;):p.

John, now they are based in Australia we will take the opportunity of doing domestic trips and discovering more of Australia. Their LAN Emerald status will drop off at the end of the year - so for 2017 I will only take them on flights with Y only seating. That is my cunning plan. (but I suspect most parents "cunning plans" always fail :( )

BTW, does anyone know of computer software that allows a "parental block" on accessing AFF? John, you have me worried!!!

we tried to book but the nights we wanted not avail ☹️ So have to stay at aguas calientes

Same happened to us via the web. Called and the rooms opened up magically.

Might be worth calling ... you could get lucky.

Belmond Palacio Nazarenas would be our home in Cusco - two nights.

This place is stunning and the customer service is exceptional!

Sanctuary Lodge management had given me a tip that the birthday girl would be in for a treat ... Wow, they won't kidding.

A birthday upgrade - the best suite in the house

Palacio Suite
