Bugger! Was looking forward to that train ride ☹️

The Belmond concierge was all over it prior to us actually checking-in at Palacio Nazarenas. They secured seats to Lake Titicaca via a couple modes of transport - fantastic service!

We confirmed our preference - fly!

No service during the 40min flight ... I suppose it beats the 10.5 hour train ride we were going to do.

FWIW Peru Rail will provide a full refund on the cancelled service ~ $602USD. The flight cost ~ $240AUD.

There were 6 other couples on the flight also staying at Titilaka Lodge ... all of them like us were originally booked to do the Andean Explorer.

Juliaca airport is about 2 hours from the lodge - all transfers are included

Presidential election advertising. Houses all over the country are painted in their team colours.

We stopped at Puno to take some pics.

Puno was where we should have arrived via the train ... it's about 45mins from Titilaka Lodge.

At least you got to experience HB, from your photographs, the AE looks the same.
What you missed was the people that "use" the train tracks, and La Raya Pass.

Hope you enjoy the Uros Islands Amaroo, the most sophisticated, well oiled, tourist machine in recent memory… :-)

One of the benefits of flying over training - arriving for lunch rather than dinner.

Titilaka Lodge is an all inclusive establishment... couldn't fault the Food and Beverage offer.
