If you are going to allow pets wouldn’t they be better off having a small designated area at the rear of the aircraft preferably so that when you book a seat you can at least try to avoid sitting in that area if you have issues.

I think that’s right, and i think that’s what VA is proposing anyway? But that would require status pax to give up any seating benefits.

What is the process to make sure that animals flying international do not carry insects, lavae, egss in their fir and faeces etc? Just interested.

Why are we preventing pax from flying in favour of pets? Not the best argument you’ve made!

The FAA is indicating that preventing the pet from flying would not solve the issue.

Finding stats on the number of pets carried in the cabin is hard! However i have eventually found something while researching law suits against airlines over pet allergies (none have been successful that I can find).

This article makes reference that Air Canada changes its ‘pet in cabin’ policy on 2009, apparently in response to Westjet already allowing it. The reported stat is that westjet carried pets in cabin on 25% of its flights! Pets in airplane cabins: an unnecessary allergic hazard

So? Hardly surprising since many of the issues have not been addressed nor has a cure to people’s allergies unless I missed it, - and if I have please send me the link so I can buy it!

The FAA advise to seek out airlines that don’t carry pets, or contact the airline for information on specific flights that don’t carry pets. Ie, the pax has to be curtailed from flying to accommodate the pets.

Just because the horse has bolted in the US and the FAA has no regulatory power to rein it in, doesn’t mean we have to let our horse out.

Americans tend to have an aversion for paying for luggage, hence the mad scramble for bin space by all those travelling HLO so it probably also explains why many dont want to fork out to fly their pet cat or dog in cabin (unless relocating).

It is great news that US has removed emotional support horses, Peacocks etc from being able to fly in cabin.

We had a peacock hanging around a BBQ area. Have you seen the huge size of peacock poo?!

I'm ok with the pets in cabins - if they are clearly marked on the seat map. This way you can choose a seat that's close or farther away based on your own preference. Perhaps someone wants to sit next to that little poodle (and is others can steer far away).

Couldn’t agree more. If you are unable to travel without your pet or check it into the hold, don’t expect others to accommodate.
