Sounds like it's a non-issue then and you won't have to worry about it once it's rolled out in Australia in the same way you haven't had to worry about it in Europe or the USA, even though they've been doing it for years.

We mainly fly BA in Europe so perhaps that’s why I haven’t seen any as I’m pretty sure they allow only service animals

Well, ever travelled on any US flight, ever?

I’m the same with flights in the US. Yet to see one.

Around 30 flights in US, never seen a pet boarding or disembarking yet.

Saw a service (blind) dog 20+ yo on Ansett

That's exactly how it works!! Pet containers are small and you shouldn't notice the animal at all! All the talk about barking dogs... It doesn't reflect the majority of cases.

My comment was related to allegedly its very common place everyday in US and therefore we should do it here. My experience (maybe limited compared to some) is that is is not commonplace everyday you will see one. Animals belong in the hold.

Exactly. But if the pet is well behaved, in a small container similar to a carry on, it could be commonplace and you don’t even know! People don’t go around announcing it or making a big deal of it.

The fact that it is not uncommon, but you’ve never noticed, is testament to how well it works!

Nah, I've also never seen a pet go through TSA. And I've probably spent hundreds of hours in line. That would be something you would notice since the pet has to be removed.

And just where does it say that pets in the cabin of US airlines are common. All US airlines have restrictions on the number of pets in each cabin. Usually 2 in a premium cabin and up to 6 on larger planes in economy. single aisle planes 4 in the economy cabin.
Then you have to book your pet in at the time of booking your seat. You can't just rock up to chrck in and get your pet checked in. Then there is a fee ranging from $US 95-150 per pet.
No wonder they are not seen very often.
And since covid emotional service animals are considered pets and the only pets allowed in a cabin are small cats and dogs.

I have an allergy to cats and can’t be in the same room as one.
Simply if I’m going to be seated near one I won’t be flying so if I have to change airlines for now so be it

I wonder if VA2 will provide people with allergies the option to declare this when they book a flight / in their FF profile that they can’t be seated next to cat/dog because of this…

I’m also highly allergic to cats and would have to request a new seat if I was within a couple of metres

I don’t know what other airlines do as I’ve never come across it but I would hope that people seated in close proximity are given a warning or the option to move seats at check in.

I've seen a couple with two small dogs checking in in Barcelona, but never in the US. Although have seen quite a few in crates at oversized luggage collection (I.e. they flew in the hold).

I used to regularly see a blind man and his Labrador guide dog on Syd-Mel, sat next to them once no issues, but I could never sit anywhere near a cat (am allergic to them).

As a courtesy any animal that is not a guide dog should be shown on seat map so others can avoid.
