Time just flies. 200 year anniversary of The Battle of Vittoria this year...and of course France will be preparing for the 28th anniversary of their [-]greatest[/-]* only Naval victory this year.

I know it has become a bit of a cliche, but as natural wonders go Niagara with its twin falls is an astonishing site in mid winter.

*edit: Thank you simongr for the correction!

Reminds me of a radio broadcast I heard, I think while in the UK during the celebrations on the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

BBC type was interviewing a French Admiral, in England as part of the Celebrations.

BBC: "Admiral, welcome, but many of us here are puzzled to see you here. After all, it is a commemoration of the defeat of the French by the English navy at Trafalgar."

Admiral (with suitable accent). " Mais non, we are not here to celebrate the victory at Trafalgar, but to celebrate the death of Nelson."

And yes, the Admiral did have his tongue firmly in his cheek.

I think.

I like to avoid any place that is frequented by

a) Australian bogans and/or
b) loud and arrogant Russian and Chinese tourists

Leadville might be the perfect destination For you then. :D

Will have to visit Hutt Lagoon one day.

No, really, don't bother. If you're taking the coastal road from Geraldton to Kalbarri you'll go past it, but it's not worth going out of your way. It's only pink at certain times and from certain angles - otherwise it just looks like any other salt lake. There's a better pink lake near Esperance.

Was surprised and disappointed not to see the Bungle Bungle on that list.

In Colorado?

Was actually surprised to see Australian bogan family in Chiang Mai last week. Had 3 children with them and one of the girls could not have been more than 14-15 years of age with tight fitting t-shirt showing off large breasts and loose high-cut shorts that left nothing to imagination. And this was dinner time at Holiday Inn buffet not the beach.

Taking a page from above, Queenstown, Tasmania shouldn't be visited by anyone. Really awful place!

I drove through there on a old rainy winters day and I reckon i cold have been on another planet.

Agree thoroughly depressing place totally unlike the road out through the Tarkine.

Isn't coughket one of your preferred holiday destinations? It is overflowing with both.

Try Pattaya - ughhh!!!

coughet was at one stage the lesser of two evils, but after my last visit (shooting one of the 5* hotels), it's now up there with the former. I cringed at the attitude of some guests, who were expecting (and complaining) that staff weren't serving room service whilst we were sheltering from the 2012 Tsunami alert, that had forced us onto the roofs of the hotel for safety.

I swear the Ben guy who writes these articles has never travelled in his life. The are full of amateurish, lazy opinion pieces that always end up so cliched.

Not in this lifetime.

I know people do not like it but Pattaya is by far away and away the cheapest golf destination in Thailand offering the most variety with over 15 golf courses less than 1 hour away. No bogans but unfortunately has been overrun by the other 2. :(

What happened to all the Germans?

... Mmm & no one has mentioned Bali as yet.. From a personal present perspective.. Not a genuine bogan in sight .. Even from a palatial distant geographic position of Nusa Dua.
My observant review of visit to Kuta yesterday was quite underwhelming in the Bogan rating.. Seems to have been migrated to coughet & Pattaya of late..

My top 10 list of places/things to avoid is*:

Arc de Triomphe
Eiffel Tower
Notre Dame Cathedral
Champs-Elysees
Musee du Louvre
Montmartre
Versailles
Le Val de Loire
Moulin Rouge
Lourdes

You are very funny however I have to agree with the last one. It's like a really really bad theme park whilst bottling your holy water out of taps/bubblers really diminishes it's significance

I just wish internet page designers could put all of the information on one page rather than those infernal slide shows.
